Default Exit handle for the driver?

On my 98 GS400, all passengers have an exit handle above their doors. For some reason, Lexus neglects to install a grab handle above the driver's window. Does anyone know if it's possible to have a handle installed to match the handle on the passenger's side, and if so what's the procedure? Sure would be nice to have.

I'm pretty sure they do this, as i've never owned a car with one, because the driver is reccomended to drive with both hands on the steering wheel at all times. Don't know about the possibility of having one installed though.

actually, when i had my tl-s, i had that on the driver side front too. to be honest, i talked to my wife about it and said it's silly.. you are supposed to put your car on the steering wheel, why would you need a handle at the top?

You gentlemen are probably right about having both hands on the wheel. My SC400 had grab bars on the A pillars, but I notice the GS doesn't provide a great deal of room for the left arm if you want to take it off the wheel. No place to put it because the arm rest on the door is too short. On top of that, at my age I could probably use the grab bar to help "drag" myself out of the car and give the steering wheel a rest. Thanks for the response.

While, driving the handle is not useful and should not really be there like others said. I can see the use as an aid to get out of the car though. Because of physical issues, some people do find it useful. It is helpful for the passenger, why not for the driver.

I never thought of it that way either. I guess if because of some physical reason you can turn your body properly to get out of the car, you would need some sort of help to pull yourself around. That makes since to have them. I just always thought of them as "Oh **** bars"

Yes, I'm refering to the leather handle above the windows. My 98 GS400 does not have the leather handle above the drivers window, but my wife's RX300 does. I was just curious as to why there's no handle above the driver's window and wondered whether one could be installed.
