Default peeling paint?

1998 GS300

Right above my left tailpipe there is what I think is clearcoat peeling off like onion skin. The paint beneath it is very shiney.

Anybody else experience this? Any remedy?

Thanks!

yeah, bring it to a body shop and get his input......unless you have some shrink or plastic wrap stuck there...

Did you buy your GS used? If so, I'm told its a common practice for some dealers to put a quick coat of paint on the bumpers of cars to freshen them up.

yeah i agree. if it's from factory, it shouldn't happen (or rarely). seems like someone spray some clear on the car quick

still, i am surprised if the clear coat is peeling? maybe it also depends on the body paint protection i suppose

Thanks everyone. I bought it used 2 years ago. The patch is now about 4 inches wide by about 8 - 10 inches tall. It's not symetrical - just jagged.

The Carfax report was clean, but I know that doesn't account for fender benders not reported.

What surprises me is how brilliant the paint beneath the silver clearcoat is. If the entire car was peeled, it would have an excellent paint job.

I'll wait till Spring to have it worked on. I'll just wax it to seal it as best I can for the winter.

hahhaa well, if all clear coat peels off, you just have a car without clear coat that's all. a lot of old cars are like that, just paint and no clear
