Default 2006 new feature?

Anyone notice the rear door tweeters on the new 2006 GS? My question though is this: was this already inplace on Mark Levinson-equipped current GSs? And did the normal Pioneer setup have any rear tweeters installed, say maybe as part of the rear door speakers anyway? It always sounded a little muddy to me if I sat in the back of my car.

There are no tweeters in the standard Pioneer stereo in the rear, only mid fill.

The nakamichi system in my 99 has seperate mid-woofers and tweeters in the rear door, but you'd never know this unless you took the door panel off and looked, as they are not visually seperate since they are all underneath the same speaker grill.

Looking underneath, however, you'll see a single enclosure with woofer and tweeter completely seperate.

Not sure about the ML cars though.

http://www.marklevinsonlexus.com/overview.asp?model=gs

this is the setup on the 01+ gs with ML. for the rear it is 2-way speaker systems using 4-inch midrange drivers and .75-inch titanium tweeters (4 drivers total) located in the rear doors

http://www.marklevinsonlexus.com/overview.asp?model=ls

now on the ls430, the tweeters and the mid they separate.

That ML in the GS appears to be absolutely identical in location and appearance to the Nakamichi in my car, except for the fact that my car has no center speaker.

yea the locations are exactly the same except the midding center channel. but the speakers are different (of course), and in the rear doors, there are two speakers inside the screen for ML, but i don't know about naka though

There are to seperate speakers inside the rear doors of the nak system as well unless I'm remembering wrong. I've seen 'em twice though and I'm pretty sure about that.

They're definitely in custom enclosures, which is neat in itself. Even custom car audio setups rarely have custom enclosures for the inside of the doors.
