Thanks, your instructions really made it easy.. since the key was already cut, I first per formed 'CREATE a SPARE KEY' then 'REGISTRATION of CODE'. The whole process took less than 10 minutes.

I have tried over and over for about 2 weeks to do this....and all I get is my locks cycling twice. Any input?

Yes. Call me when you are at the car and I will walk you through it.
More than likely you are holding the remote buttons down a little too long or you may need to hold the key up a little higher so the car will pick up the signal from the remote.

I had two keys made for my car locally. The locksmith and I went through all of the procedures to attempt to get them to start the car without success. Programmed them to open the doors and trunk without problem, but there was no way to get the car to recognize them by going through the steps as outlined in the manual and from everyone who sent me instructions. The car just would not start with these keys.
The nearest Lexus dealer is 140 miles away. I called the local Toyota store and was told that since it was a Lexus, they couldn't touch it. I was getting ready to make the trip to Seattle when I talked to a guy who worked in the Toyota dealership. He told me he has seen a number of Lexus'es in the shop. I called again, talked to another service writer and was told that they could take car of my key issue. I took the car in, the keys were programmed to start the car in under 15 minutes. (They charged me over $60, but it was still cheaper than driving to the Emerald city) Royal jack around.
My question is: Is there a setting in the computer on the car that allows the keys to be programmed without the use of the Lexus tools? The locksmith who made the keys said that he had never seen a Lexus that he couldn't program the keys for, and he has sold quite a few.

I just think that the programming sequence is all about timing...as stated in my earlier posts, i have been trying to get this working for 3 weeks. I finally am able to start the car witht he new key. I still have yet to have the keyless entry working.
Would an aftermarket alarm have anything to do with my inability to program these features?

I recently had another master key cut , and not having any luck getting the thing programmed to turn/start the car (98 GS400)
these are the instructions I was given and have been trying:
1. Simultaneously depress and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time.
2. Insert existing master key into ignition.
3. Within 15 seconds depress and release accelerator pedal 5 times.
4. Within 20 seconds depress and release the brake pedal 6 times and
remove key.
5. Within 10 seconds insert new key into ignition.
6. Within 10 seconds depress and release the accelerator pedal 1 time.
7. After 80 seconds new key is registered and security light goes off.
8. Remove new key and depress and release brake pedal 1 time.
I'm stuck on step 7 where the security light never goes off and just keeps blinking. So, either the instructions are wrong , I'm doing something wrong with the timing or the car is just not programmable without going to a dealer. Anyone have any similar experiences or suggestions? Thanks.

One more thing.. I've also seen other posts that say to "turn the key to on" as a variation to the instructions above (which state, do not turn key). Is the newly cut master key supposed to be able to turn at all even before programming? I had mine cut by Wayne Officer , who is highly recommended on the board .. and while the keys work fine for the doors , it doesn't look exactly exact to the master I'm using. Understandable, since he was just going by a vague digital picture.

1) Make sure you are working with a MASTER key and not a valet key.
2) The security light should not come on until after you do step #6. If the security light comes on after step #5 then you don't have it in programming mode. You need to work on your timing. You may be pressing and releasing the pedals too quickly or too slowly. Make sure you press them down as far as they will go and fully release them before you press them down again.

Follow up on the problem.. I took the car in to get the key programmed ($48). As it turns out, the so called "master" I got from the used dealer was really an aftermarket key with the remote functions , and so the ECM sees it effectively as a valet key and they were unable to program it all .. basically telling me that I need to do the ECM thing , which is $900+. Time to search old threads about valet keys.
On the other hand, they didn't charge me a penny, free wash and wax and while they were working on the car using my superglued "master" key, the shell broke apart and they put it together in a new free shell for me. Kudos to Hennessey Lexus in Duluth, GA.
