Question Cell Phone Mount - Help Please

Some time ago I remember seeing a thread that showed pictures of a really cool installation of a cell phone mount on a GS's console near the radio.

At the time I had an antique cell phone that would have required sinking mollys into the dash to hold it up so I didn't pay that much attention. Now I have a new cell phone and a new GS430 on the way so I'm interested in seeing how it was done.

I tried searching the site and came up empty. Maybe it was on the old site.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I dunno if mine is LIKE the one you recall. This is a pro-fit mount w/the Startac handsfree kit. It rocks.

The Panavise mount requires drilling holes, and it tells you to disconnect the ashtray wires. Pro-Fit you don't need to disconnect anything and you don't need to drill holes, it uses the holes that holds the radio intact. I called a Pro-Fit distributor before and if I remembered correctly the mount for the GS is something like 22 bucks. No brainer.

for something not so permanent you can buy handsfree kits that go in your cigarette holder, not as clean looking, but i wired the mic on mine right to the drivers face and its very clear for my mom to use.when she wants to take it out theres just one clip and thats it, and if you want to take it out you just pull it out of the cig lighter, pictures coming

Thanks fior the info so far folks.

The phone I'm looking to mount is the new Nokia 7100. One thing I haven't figured out is how the mount deals with the slide on the bottom of the phone you need to open to dial.

Worm,

What was involved in mounting the Pro Fit? I like the idea of not having to drill additional holes as I'd have to do with the Panavise. Were you the one who posted the pictures of the stages of the installation as you did it?

------------
Sasha,

With that cigarette lighter kit...doesn't it get in the way of the shift lever? I'm not getting what you mean that you wired the mic to the driver's face. I'd like to see the pictures when you put them up.

the pro fit is just the metal piece that will attach to the normal Nokia handsfree kit which you have to buy separately, correct? the Nokia kit allows for the 7100's keypad cover to slide down easily... i've seen it in action and it works great.

i think i might try that pro fit one with my 7100.

yeah the pro-fit is just a metal piece. You'll have to find some holder to put on the metal piece.

What sucks is that my current holder covered my sliding cover. I can't access my sliding cover or punch in numbers.

Yea, the pro-fit accepts whatever handsfree kit your phone requires (assuming it's a permanent/mount install). I didn't post in-process pro-fit pics; mine was installed by the phone guy.

Basically, all that was required was removing the nav/radio faceplate, a couple of screws, then screwing in -- the pro-fit installs into existing screws/holes.

that picture of the car with the startac phone mount looks like it was graphically redone on a computer, you can tell near the steering wheel, the dash behind it doesn't really come up that high, but still it is a very good job with photoshop

Don't think it's graphically done. It takes more time to make the phone look right on the computer than actually mounting a mount and a phone!

The dash behind it, it's suppose to be a black background but when they take out the entire windshield for some clouds, they didn't do it for the steering wheel part.

that's my guess

I use the Navigator "Hands-free" kit that plugs right into your cigarette lighter. It also has an extension if you want to mount it to the side. All in all it works pretty well and is not an eyesore.
