ithas happend again...Moisture in headlamp
This time it is the Passenger side assembly. Last year I had the driver side headunit replace because of excess moisture...well I am taking it tomorrow to see what they tell me...I hope they don't di*k me around and tell me some crap. I just checked and the moisture is still in the assembly from last week's heavy rain. well I hope to take care of a few TSB also like the rattling glove box. hopefully they will be able to get me a new headlight unit again, and not try to "glue" this one.
A couple weeks ago I had my '99 in for ALL FOUR headlamps leaking - headlights and high beams. The dealer replaced them all. They had been leaking for a couple of months but had gotten progressively worse. Coincidentally, I also had them perform the TSB for the rattling glove box. Worked for a couple of days but then the rattle returned although not quite as pronounced. I was toying with it this afternoon and tried a TSB of my own. We'll see what happens.
Is the moisture in the headlamps a TSB and will they fix that problem free of charge?
My dad's friend has a black 98 GS400 and his warranty is long over (85g miles), would they still fix his moisture-in-headlight problem for free?

nanotech,
I had my headlight assemblies replaced while still under the 50k mile warranty. I don't think there is a TSB for the leaking headlights. I bought my car as a CPO and it is warrantied to 100k miles, but in the fine print, it states that the warranty does not cover "glass" amoung other things. My salesman said the extended warranty would not cover the headlights.
Unfortunatly, your dad's buddy is out of luck.

my car is at 59,200 now, but I have the extended warranty for 5/100k...now I have to keep my fingers crossed.
They WILL try and tell you that the headlight housing is a "glass" item and not covered, when in fact that little byline on the warranty was originally intended to keep them from replacing windshields from rockchips... Now, claiming the housing is "glass" and not covered is just another way for the factory to cover their rear and wallet at the same time.
The leaking headlights is a HUGE problem, and should be a safety RECALL item... where do we complain "en masse" to the government to get these shoddy headlight housings recalled????
Also, if any of you even happen to get in a personal injury accident on a rainy night, guess who your lawyer can now bring a lawsuit upon... LEXUS. Obviously, the water can degrade headlight performance and not allow you to get maximal lighting performance and safety.... If this is what Lexus REALLY wants, I'm sure this is going to happen to them someday on such a well documented problem. I think what we all really want is SAFETY and having a waterfilled headlight housing is not SAFE!!!

Regardless of it being under warranty or NOT....I would take the car to the dealership and tell them it should be swapped out for FREE since its a safety issue. For the driver, the beam pattern is altered with the drops of water/moisture in the housing. For on-coming drivers, it may create glare.

My car (99 GS400) is out of warranty but Lexus agreed to replace the headlights for free. Read the thread I started https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...threadid=74866 that explains what I did to get Lexus to do that.
