They then said how it drives like a 911 more than the new 911, i.e it had quirks that may seem crazy at first but it gives the car character after a while, I actually like the M-coupe. It's not for everyone, exactly why I like the GS!!
Sometimes (especially compared to the 1st gen GS) our GS looks kinda ugly, kinda weird. The hood is pretty short, the rear deck is shorter, looks wide in the front, narrow in the back, has a lot of surface tension the way the front end joins the A-pillar and the C-pillar kinda a brigde to the 1st gen....
Is the 2nd gen GS a cult car?!?!?!?!?!!

I actually think the M-coupe isn't that bad either. It looks like what it's built for.
The only part I don't like on the GS is the fat rear end of the car looked from the side. Fat chunk body makes all wheels look smaller. 18s look like 17s, 17s look like 16, and don't even mention my stock 16s.
Have to agree with spinedoc: lots of MB owners comparing anecdotes and knowledge of company history, stuffy atmosphere over there ( with numerous exceptions).........and constantly missing the point: competition improves the breed!!
Yes, MB was engineered to a standard at one time. This produced incremental improvements from year to year, stratospheric prices and an elitist attitude that permeated the dealerships. Many of the physicians and business owners in this area that jumped on the Lexus bandwagon in 1989 did so not simply because the LS400 was $20k less than the S -class V8 but because they were fed up with their treatment by the dealerships.
And they stayed because of the quality and because of the polite and professional way that they were treated not only by sales staff but esp. by service!!!! THIS attitude was a first for ANY major marque!! Dare we say.......innovative?????
All finger pointing aside, both are great companies. And Howard Johnson's has 57 flavors for a reason: to each, his/her own.
Non sequiter: I, too, am a fan of the M - coupe. There's something about it that reminds me (if I sort of squint and take my glasses off) of a 911 with flares, from the rear. As said before, it looks exactly like what it is.........and according to the mags, all the M - series get the new motor. Godawmighty, they gonna be fast!!!!!!!!
