Default new starter..

This has been going on for a few days now. Whenever I try to start my GS up, I hear a clicking sound (one click), but it doesn't start. It takes me 3 or 4 tries before it actually starts up. I called Lexus of Concord, and they told me it would be over $1000 for parts and labor, since they would have to actually take out the intake manifold to get to the starter. Is this legit? Will I be paying too much if I take it there? I'm just curious. I know starters don't cost that much. A thousand dollars sounds way too pricey. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

the service consultant was asking for something around $1090.. is that around how much you paid? what if i just take it to a regular auto shop? also.. how many miles did you have when you replaced it? i just hit 107K..

Just try to be 100% sure it's the starter. Check the battery, cables, all the connection. Heck..even buy a new battery, or remove yours and take it to have it checked over. You might end up saving big..

before you buy a new battery bring it to a mechanic to make sure the starting system is

functioning properly

You should probably ask around and find another place besides a Lexus Dealer to change your starter. I think it's for sure the starter because I had the same exact problem with mine and replaced it.
