joshoowa - the name of that carPC front end is frodoplayer
frodoplayer is just one at of about 6 that can be used check mp3car.com[software & develpment] forum

Blackened - yes wireless is optional, i plan on only using it though when the car is in my driveway so i can just send new mp3,video files to the PC

Aristor - yea that screen that asci01has is a TS, you can also get a non touch screen[little bit cheaper]

check the thread that asci01 posted for more info

Thank you guys for all the complements

Since I had no DYI to go by (as far as I know this is the first PC made to fit in the glove box of a GS) it took long days and nights of researching, planning and fabrication. I was tempted of quitting several times full of frustration but it's what I really wanted to complement our wonderful Lexus. By the way, I'm running XP. The automatic hybernation takes about 6 sec and returning from it, about 7 secs. That's quicker than getting my radar out and putting my seatbelt !. The song that was playing returns at the same spot it was before shutting down the car, gradually increasing the volume from zero to where you left it. Since Windows multitask, you can use the GPS while listening to your CD or mp3s

The front end application it's free and can be customized. My GPS receiver (fits in the palm of my hand) hook up is next. I posted more pics and info in the other thread.

Thats a very impressive custom job. Far the most coolest thing i seen on a car. Keep up the good job.

by the way, how much this setup will cost? I really gotta think if i want the OEM Navi retrofit on my car or this mini PC. let me know

About $1500. Maybe less. (includes GPS, DVD, FM, TV tuner) which is less than the cost of a Pioneer AVIC-N1 and a far cry from the Eclipse AVN 2454 (~$2200 if you can find one) and you get a bigger screen, a 60 gig HD to load all your CDs, TV, and Lexus custom menus. And yes, you can also add a rear view camera and integrate XM radio control, wireless internet and cell phone control.

Thanks for all the complements

The PC has a bigger screen and much better resolution than the OEM Navi and you can do a lot more with the PC.

I would almost want to switch out my stock Nav setup to do something like that...I like the functionality.

yes indeed sir, yes indeed, cost-effective. the good guys won't install dvd navi unless it's 1800+ at least..

rear view camera, & bigger screen would be off the wall.

my friend has a tv tuner on her clk..... she said when she's stuck on the 10 freeway, she can watch the news. i tried to ask her how it works, but of course, either of us could figuer it out :P

asci01, does one only get the "normal, local" channels, or cable shows like the mtv ?
