Default Advice on getting GS

I am new to this board and have been lurking for a while and need some advice on getting a used GS. I won't be able to get it at least until Nov, because that is when I get back to the States from the war. Now, I have narrowed it down to the GS, was considering the new Acura TL and also the G35also, but I have driven FWD cars all my life and now would like to try a RWD and I have never had a Lexus. I do not like the interior of the G35 much, don't know about the new M35/45 though. Pics looks real nice.

I have a few questions, what do you guys think the price will be in Nov for 2001 or 2002 GS430, without NAV and ML with pretty low miles, around 40-70K. I have looked at prices now and they seem to run 30-35K for that price range. Do you think it will drop significantly since its close to the new 2006 GS? Or will prices remain stable? And also what year did the wood steering wheel became an option?

Thanks

Lightbulb FWD...RWD....go both at once

You say you like the GS, and say you're tired of FWD and want RWD. Why not wait a couple of months and check out the upcoming 2005 AWD GS? According to Lexus, the AWD is going to be available on BOTH the 330 and 430 versions. This way you can have the benefits of FWD and RWD combined.
Only sticking point might be the price....Lexus has not yet announced it, and of course only you can determine if you can afford it.

the price should be around 30k just like what you are looking at. the price will drop more next yr when the new GS comes out, that's for sure. imho that's the bargain time. but then it depends on whether you can wait that long.

That is a good point. To me the GS mixes what the G35 and TL has, which is why it's more expensive. The TL has lots of new tech but still Accord based and the quality is lacking.
The G35 is closer to the GS in execution great handling RWD, good Infiniti service like Lexus. But most here would get the coupe (the only way to look past the interior).

A 2002 GS 430 wiil be around 32-40k. 35k is a great target with low mileage. You do have to save money for mods.

Thanks for the comments. I thought the AWD was only available for the V6 version only? Maybe I'm wrong. BTW, my price range is 35K and under, so the 3rd generation is out of the question. Maybe I can get the 2nd gen this year and two years down the line get the 2007 AWD GS430 Hybrid!

Oh yah, what about the wood steering wheel? Is it possible to find a GS without NAV &ML with the wood steering wheel. I really like the wheel, I seen it on an RX once and thought it added a more luxurious feel to the car. And if its not available, are there aftermarket options?

it's going to be a bit hard but not impossible to find one i can tell you. most GS430 comes with wood wheel already (except 01, where there were a lot more gs430 without wood wheel). ML and nav pretty much goes together (again except 01, where they were separate options)

Hi there

Prices will definately drop this fall and early winter.

Lexus has a "December to Remember" Sales Event. But I am not sure if this also applied to certified cars.

You can also get more feedback about pricing at www.edmunds.com

Good luck.

I think pricing on the vehicle will highly depend on demand for the redesigned GS. Its all a matter of supply and demand for both new and the old.

I agree with GS4fun. Also, I think 430s will be more severely affected than the 400s. And, of course, it is just a matter of supply and demand. I think GS400s in excellent condition with low miles are becoming harder and harder to come by, so the price of those cars probably won't be affected as much when the new one comes out. Also, let's not forget that the new one is still going to be pushing $60k, so pre-owned GS's still will be a good value, and may not take as bad of a hit as everyone thinks.

I looked on autotrader and it seems the 430s are going less than 400s. I don't understand the difference, shouldn't the 430s be more pricer? And also the 300s are not that much lower than the 430s!!!! I was wondering what made this discrepancy? Maybe the high gas prices are scaring people out of V8?
