Default Newbie: Suggestions welcomed

Hey gang,

I have a stock 1999 GS300 blk/blk....Ive had the car almost 2 years and love it. The comfort and handling makes it a pleasure to drive.

A little background....I live in NYC...as you may know the weather here is horrible...long, snowy, wet, rainy winters and a short hot, steamy rainy summer. I drive my car pretty much everyday.

In spite of the less than ideal driving conditions (roads are very bad) I want to upgrade to a 17" chrome wheel. Originally I wanted to go to 18", but have been cautioned against it for reasons of severely reduced ride quality.

I was also interested in what effect installing Eibach Pro-Kit springs would have on the ride. Keep in mind I want to preserve as comfortable and smooth ride as possible. It seems to me that the GS has a large wheel/fender gap...which is probably going to increase with the larger wheel.

I was wondering if there was anyone in my neck of the woods who could share some insite and experiences that might help me in my quest for a distinctive GS.

Thanks!

Welcome to ClubLexus Mondo! I encourage you to use the search tool on our forum as all the questions you've asked have been discussed before. Just be smart with your keywords and you'll find a wealth of information immediately at your fingertips.

The difference between 17 and 18" wheels in ride quality is minimal (I went from 16 to 17 to 18) so if you really want 18's, get 'em IMO.

You'll likely want to do shocks at the same time you do the springs, so I encourage you to look at them together. You might want to consider some of the softer riding coilovers as an option as well, or the L-tuned combo which is reasonably soft.

We have MANY members in the NY area and you just missed a big meet last weekend. Keep checking the 'regional' forums for Northeast for the next one. Here are some links to the pics from the meet:

if you don't want to sacrifice the ride, the Eibach springs with stock shocks is your best bet.
it'll give your car the perfect stance with a nice ride. i have the exact set-up in my car with 17's
factory chromes and love it.
