Someone posted this link a while back on a timing belt job for a '96 LS400 (same series engine as the GS400). It could act as a guide if you wanted to do your GS400:

Banana, i must say i love ur site!! i have had it in my favorites ever since i found out about CL alomst 1 yr ago. i love lookin at the work you do, it is VERY admirable. i only wish that i was as mechanically inclined, or maybe even 1/2, so i could attempt some of those DIY's. i just get too nervous to do most of those things. anyway, keep it up and im sure i speak for all members, or almost all when i say its a GREAT site and in my eyes, the BEST site out there for all those DIYers!!!

Jacob, I ran out of the free 1 month membership at the 24 hrs fitness =), I signed up membership for another gym already.
I am doing the LEDs brake light now. I finally got the parts and a few hundred LEDs (not planning to use all of them
(the same LED type that used on the new Mercedes) they are DOT legal LEDs on color and brightness made Lumileds, (but that not gonna make my brakelight DOT approve, since this is purely a home project)
I read a bunch of designs for automotive LED brakelight application, I think I finally come up with the circuit that I can build that is not too complicated and still follow the OEM circuit designed for car (I am not talking about about a register circuit like the imitation aftermarket LEDs that you get at the local autopart
)
I am gonna do 2 DIYs for now, one is for the center third brake light, for those who does not have a spoiler (or don't want the spoiler either) since I have a spoiler already, i am just gonna do this one for your viewing "fun"
Currently, I got some brakelight from a CL member. I cut everything apart already. I planned to do the 2 small round ones (on the trunk) first, make them all LEDs. if my circuit work as designed. i will use this same circuit on the main brake light, maybe just do the rear signal all yellow LEDs, who know. I get a bit lazy thinking about soldering 100s of LEDs hee hee
>autocouture style lights on the bottom
I still waiting to get some free time so i can take my car in for repaint of the front bumper and the side skirts, before putting this on. I think Ican attempt to write up this DIY without actually doing it if you want, it's not hard to mount the LEDs, just need to get the screw type of LED that they made for the license plate, on sale all over ebay or your local part store
