Hi:

I'm Frank and I'm new here. I just got my 2000 GS400 and I really love this car.

I have read many magazine about the rival between the GS400 and BMW 540i. Personally I think Lexus is superior in straight line acceleration and resale value. That's why I didn't go for the 540i.

Any thoughts about the GS400 vs 540i are welcome. I'm very curious about that you people think.

Sincerely,
Frank

Thumbs up the best thing

good day, frank

this is a lexus board, so most of our feedback would be more positive towards the gs

without sounding too biased, i will just tell you there are 2 members here who actually owned 540s(auto and stick) for a short while and defected to the perfection land. go back a page or two and you will find their opinions very informative. too bad you did not get the 540, otherwise you can for sure add reliablity to your list of reasons for the gs

we did an extensive discusion and comapro between the 2.

Glad to hear you chose Lexus. From an aesthetic point of view I love the GS vs. the 540i. I think the 540 looks a little tall. The GS is a little racier in styling, and different - and the interior is wonderful. Either car you chose, you would have made a great choice, but doesn't the Lexus V8 just purr when you punch it!!! Velvet Lightning.

Congratulations!!!

Good choice. Not only do you have luxury, kick-a$$ speed, and style, but you also have first class reliability, and the Lexus dedication to customer satisfaction!!!!

I also looked at the 540i before buying my GS, but I found the ride too hard, and the interior really "plain" compared to the Lexus. Another gripe I had was that "Montana" leather. I think it's gross - feels like you're sitting on an elephant!! I like the opulent look of the Lexus interior, and the "don't even think about it" look of the exterior. I love my Lexus, and I hope yours gives you much pleasure!

C.

Talking perfection vs ultomato

Welcome!!! Both are excellent choices; but I (we all) think you've made the better choice.

Maybe it's me, but all the older BMWs in this area look, well, sort of........droopy and faded, for lack of a better phrase. Possibly poor maintainence but you have to postulate that anybody spending the bucks AND keeping the car would at least keep up the cosmetics.

Whereas old Lexus just look like every other Lexus: cultured, clean and holding up well. And in the case of the GS4s, fast as hell!!!!

Yowza!!!!

Default Welcome to ClubLexus Frank...

You made the right choice in choosing Lexus. Now your car won't look like the same one's made in 1989.

I traded in a 1995 540ia 17" wheels, non sport package.
I had it for 4 yrs. and had numerous problems, brake lights went out 3 times, drivers window motor broke, alarm would lock me out of the car, even after they changed the alarm module and the key will not over ride the remote,so if you tried to open the door with the key the alarm sounds and the car won't start. The ignition switch broke. It got to the point where I was afraid to take it on road trips. I found out when I was trying to trade it that the 94-95 bmw V8s were bad and could fail at any time because of the aluminum in them, so I didn't get much for it on trade. The only thing I liked more about the bmw was the steering.

Angry i had the same worry

TMitchell,

i had the same feeling about my old 735 beemer, the coolant "went out"(i meant that word for word) on me at 45k. now i am on my third lex.

your blk cherry gs430 is a rare combo. here in s.cal, i order to get the ML, you have to get the NAV. and such combo only comes in silver, blk , and white. what is even worse is that you cannot get the wood steering anymore. i guess you got the car when it first came out last year, correct?

I have just had mine a little over a month. My wife saw a black cherry gs300 and liked it. So I told him to find me a gs430 in that color with all the options except for nav.I was not really that interested in chrome wheels, but the car they located had them, so I figured what the heck. I just wanted a darker color so I could see the results of my labor when I waxed it. I live in Wichita,Ks. and the dealer found the car I wanted in Dallas.
