On valentines day my gs300 got backed into and the fender needs to be replaced. I can’t decide if i should go with an aftermarket one or try to find an oem one I would like to know a professional opinion or advice. Sorry for starting a new thread but I couln’t find anything on it. (the guy is paying for it but I got quoted 5200 for something I can fix if he just buys the stuff to do it) The door got a little dinged up but im more concerned about fixing the fender
I have tried both new aftermarket (from Carparts.com) and used OEM fenders (from a local guy parting out his GS) and I would go with a used OEM fender hands down. The fitment for the OEM will always be spot on. I had some minor fitment issues with the aftermarket fender. Some people would not have noticed the minor imperfections but I definitely noticed and it really bothered me. Just to give you an idea, on the passenger side fender the 3 holes at the top that attach the fender to the side of the engine bay did not line up perfectly so I had to make the holes bigger so the fender could fit. Same issue with the driver side. The front arc that goes around the edge of the headlight and the edge that meets the A-Pillar was not perfectly aligned either. I did not have any of these fitment issues with the OEM fenders. If you're like most people, you probably won't even notice. But if you're more of a perfectionist like me, stick to OEM and save yourself the headache. Make sure your painter blends the fenders with the front doors, otherwise you will notice the difference in color when the sun hits it at certain angles.
