Burning CDs - Confirmed Process?
I might be the only one with this problem in 2025. Has anyone documented a guaranteed procedure for getting burned CDs to work with our stock Pioneer CD players? I have old CDs that were burned from back in the day that work just fine, but I didn't burn them myself or else I'd just repeat that method lol. I'm attempting to burn .wav files to a Maxell CD-R at slow speed in Audio CD format (80 min vs 700 MB which is a data CD). Any tips/tricks?
OP, what burn program are you using? I've has sucess with NERO burning rom (2 PC's ago..lol) but in those days where we were all burning Napster/limewire stuff I think WINAMP had a burn option and even WINDOWS media player worked also.
What is happening when you attempt to burn the wave files in Audio CD format? the CD does not play I assume. can you confim that the WAVE files have been converted to audio format?
I still burn CD’s to use in my GS300. These past few years I’ve used iTunes on a Macbook Air with a USB DVD burner to make mine. Just the typical 700mb 80 minute CD. I’ve never had trouble with burnt CD’s in any of my Lexus over the past 16 years. There isn’t any special discs I use either, just whatever CD-R’s or CD-RW’s that are on sale. I prefer the RW but they always costed a lot more money.
I used to use the Nero CD burning software back in the mid 2000’s but it kept chopping small chunks off of songs. I’ve been making playlists on iTunes and burning to a disc since the early 2010’s on my old black Macbook. I think I used the same process on my old Sony Windows 8 laptop as well since it had a built in disc drive.

Over the years I've used many different burning programs & they all worked. Most recent is the one built into windows - burned mp3's. The read/write many CDs wouldn't work though for me. I've got the ML system w/pioneer changer in glove box. All was good until a couple months ago when all sound stopped - could be my amp blew, but that's for another post lol!
Totally forgot about this thread... I chased this windmill successfully burned three blank TDK CD-Rs from the late 90s. I burned them as audio discs at 2x speed with a generic $20 CD/DVD/Blu-Ray reader/writer off Amazon, and they're recognized by my player faster than some brand new/factory burnt album CDs I've bought 😆
TL;DR - the early Pioneer CD player seems to be sort of finnicky with which CDs it will and won't read. I've got three old CDs burned given to me when I was younger (Sony and TDK, shocker) and they're also recognized faster than some brand new/factory CDs. That should've been my clue. The general consensus I've seen with older car CD players is that you generally want to burn as slow as possible and specifically in audio disc (raw PCM encoding) format. I hope by some miracle this helps another Don Quixote somewhere.
