Default Power steering

what up y'all I just bought a 2001 gs430 & was told NOT to put normal power steering because it will blow the pump, instead they told me to use tranny fluid.
Can I get some feedback on this please.

That is correct the power steering system uses Dexron II/III (or equivalent) automatic transmission fluid.

Yep, what he said, and it SHOULD say that right on the cap - our 02 does IIRC.

Regular ps fluid should not blow it, but there is not a single reason to use it over the cheaper and recommended DexIII.

One of the most common issues with these vehicles is the power steering pumps leaking fluid into the alternator. So you will have to keep topping off the fluid, and eventually the alternator will go bad. Or you can rebuild/replace the PS Pump, and any bad PS hoses and get ahead of the issues.
