Having just bought this GS400, I did not realize that the left outside mirror did not dim like the other mirror and the inside electrochromatic mirror. Plus it shows signs of a slight impact, and the dealer's attempt to repair the rubber around the mirror. After a few wash jobs, the rubber cement is coming loose, and bottom line is: I need to change the entire mirror.

I saw a post earlier about this, and after seemingly hours looking for it, could not find it. I called Lexus parts, and asked for a replacement, and they shocked me. The part is special order, but costs $311.00.
Isn't there anywhere else I could get this part besides Lexus? Maybe Toyota has it in the Avalon, which is the closest to Lexus in terms of luxury...or maybe someone has a better source????

Lexus Customer Satisfaction is replacing the entire Pioneer radio assembly because of the defective Liquid Crystal display (couldn't believe they actually went for it). I just asked, and it took 3 days, but they got back with me and decided to honor my request. Not bad for a 4 year old car with over 60,000 miles...and I did NOT buy it from a Lexus dealership. This will go a long way towards ensuring that I will own Lexus for a long time. I won't ask for the mirror, because it shows signs of abuse/accident.

The lady I talked with told me that even with an extended warranty, electronics are only covered the first 1 year or 12,000 miles on a new car, and NO aftermarket warranty will honor it. She also said that if people ask, they will consider their request for just about anything....It is not well publicized, but it never hurts to ask. She genuinely tried hard to accommodate me. ALSO, if you need a security computer because of lost keys, they have been known to replace that computer free of charge...(once again, if you don't ask, you won't get). They don't HAVE to do anything, but talking NICE to them surely helps. Lexus customer service number is: 1 (800) 255-3987. Don't be a name dropper and mention me on all your requests, or they may get mad at me, LOL!

If anyone has ever done this mirror repair yourself...is there a DIY on changing the mirror without removing the outside cover? Lexus says that it can be done.

I put on it 3 pdf files on the mirror replacement. The 2nd one is the one you want, as it's just the mirror replacement (w/o removnig the housing).

As for genunine parts, try a discounter of Lexus parts like:

The mirror will be pricey due to the heater element and the electrochromic function. Good luck.

I knew SOMEONE would have the answer I was looking for. You guys (and girls) always come through. My intent is to avoid large service charges if I can. I know the parts of this car are basically very reliable, though. I'll learn to fix most gripes on this car just like all the other cars I have owned over the years.
