Default ECU Source

Looks like my 98 GS4 is needing a new ECU. Anybody have a source they can recommend for one programmed to my car?

Did the capasitors start leaking? Replacing the ECU can be expensive and a hassle, the keys are progranmed to the ECU, so youll have to rekey the car. You can find new ECU’s still fro
the dealership. Or you can get a used one from ebay or a wrecking yard, just make to get the keys and lock cylinders. Have you looked into gettng yours rebuilt? If the circuit board didnt get damaged to bad, they can be repaired. There is a few shops around the country that service and rebuild ECU’s. Youll probably have to send then yours to get an estinate and their opinion on whether its salvagable. If it is, it will probably cost a couple hundred bucks. Which is way less than a new one. If you decide to go with a used one, its q good idea to get it serciced before installing it. Any vehicle that uses electolitic capacitors will face this issue, especially when 25 years old. If your good at soldiering or know someone who is, then you can order new capacitors and replace the old ones for less than $75.
