Default 2000 Lexus GS400 didn’t start?

Greetings

i have a 2000 GS400 with about 200k. It has always been reliable and has not exhibited any mechanical signs of age other than a leaky AC evaporator, and recently a bad alternator. The engine receives regular maintenance and does not consume a drop of oil between oil changes. Gas mileage has been consistent. The body shows the road and parking lot rash of 200K but there is no reason to believe there is not another 100k left in the engine.

The other day I ran to the supermarket, ~3 miles. The car started and ran fine as always. I was in the store for about 15 mins and drove home. All was well. After about 10 mins I headed out again, but this time the car would not start. It cranked fine but no joy. I tried putting the key in the run position and shifting the car into drive and back to park before trying a restart, again no joy.

I waited about 10 mins and tried to start it again, with the same result. The engine cranked properly but there was no ignition. The local garage was closing so I called AAA for a tow. Making the call took about 10 mins. I tried to start again, now ~30 mins after I returned from the store and it started right up?

Since then I’ve made several similar trips and there has been no issue? I have attached a code reader and there are no stored codes? Can a fuel injected engine flood? Or is there a relay in the ignition circuit that could stick causing the spark to fail? Without a code, I’m at a loss as to where to start looking but I want to understand the cause so I can prevent it from happening again. Thought?

Thanks

It's more likely a fuel pump failing. That wouldn't throw a code. Anything that cuts ignition would, IE igniter, coil primary, cam/crank signal. If it happens again, remove the air filter and try some starting fluid spray. If it starts up, fuel pump is likely going bad.
