Default Headlight conversion

Hey guys so i have an 03 gs with stock HIDs the predicament i’m in is most aftermarket headlights are non for HID assemblies. Any guides on how to remove the HID system and convert it to the halogen option? Or if you know of any aftermarket headlights that use the stock hids please link them below. Thanks 🤙🏽

Hello,

Any particular reason for getting rid of HID headlights? They are about as good as it gets on those cars, quite efficient and equipped with an Auto-Aim system to prevent you from blinding everyone around you, no aftermarket replacement will be able to beat them.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

I'm going to have to disagree. The stock hid headlights were good by 90s standards but they're pretty bad by today's standards. If you want to upgrade the headlights, your only option is to retrofit a projector into the housing. Everything else you do will be a downgrade. A d2s projector and quality d2s bulbs are comparable to most modern led lights on today's car.

Well, but what changed in 20 years so drastically that those headlights are no longer cutting it? I have a 2000 ES300 with HID headlights, and I can say that those are a lot better than some of the solutions on even newer cars, let alone aftermarket. They don't blind the heck out of every passing vehicle, while still being bright enough that I barely even use high beams, despite the fact that I spend most of the time on rural 2-lane roads instead of major highways.

With that, it all depends on the condition of your headlights, mines are in pretty good shape, the ballast is still like new, and lenses were polished and clear coated to prevent them from oxidizing again, if yours have seen better days, then yes, any aftermarket will be an upgrade.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

As you know I have the same car and same headlights. I find the factory HIDs barely acceptable compared to the LEDs in some of my other cars. To my eyes the LEDs are at least 50% brighter and throw light farther down the road.

Not they don't blind anyone the beam pattern is proper. Yes some new model cars have awful (dim) lighting I don't know how they are legal.

Maybe I haven't driven a new car in a while, but I am pretty happy with my OEM headlights.

As for LED lights, I do have a pretty nasty relation with those, Especially on newer SUVs (cough cough Escalade), since they are usually located right at my line of sight, so no matter how you adjust those, they will still end up blinding me. With most other cars, it doesn't appear like much thought went into it at all, with most of the LED headlights missing an automatic aim system that is required in HID lights, so if you have a car loaded with passengers and cargo, you will sure as heck start blinding oncoming traffic even if the headlights are set correctly, though it may be just me, if you have any ideas on how to test it, I am all ears.

i did this to my car, all you need is a simple connector swap, but yes, the stock hids are actually much better than most aftermarket options, I had to make the change because I had a cracked lens and couldn’t really afford both new oem headlights in good condition at the time. Nevertheless if your headlights are still in good shape and working order just keep them

i can provide pictures of how it’s wired if need be, but you leave like 3/5 of the connectors hanging down, wich I capped off
