Default stock sub and tweeters

Eric,

Funny, we have the same name and I was gonna ask the same question... my GS' sub and tweeters were missing since the day I bought the car, and I am thinking about putting some in... mostly remain the stock look, so they HAVE to fit the sub and tweeters original space.

Any suggestions? And where can I find them?

*note, I think the OEM ones in my car were purposedly "Wire-cut" due to an auto burg or something.. the wires were clean cut.. so I guess I would have to run wires too...

please email to erics@v7s.com

Thanks,
Eric S. from Cali.

93 GS, silver.

We have quite a few 1st Gen GSs in SoCal.

Two years ago I bought a subwoofer because my stock one blew-up. The sub I bought was pretty expensive but it sounded worse than a blown stock sub. Just recently, I found out that the sub I bought was for a designed to be placed in a box; it was not a free-air speaker like the stock system. Then, I bought a powerful amp and it sounded better, but not as good as it should sound. Now I have the time to take it out and put it into a box, but I couldn't remember what size it was. I didn't want to buy a box because there is very little trunk space in the 1st gen GS, but I don't want my $450 speaker to go to waste.

Eric- since you want to keep the stock location for the sub, I remember reading in the Electronics sub-forum that a free-air sub with an infinite baffle (I don't know what that means) is the way to go. Also, get 2ohm speakers, but if not, you will have to get an amp.

I don't know much about the other speakers, but I'm sure someone here can help you out.

Umm, I thought the stock sub is 8" but a 10" will fit with little modification...I'm confused again.

Wolfman, welcome. What else did they do besides take the sub and tweets? that sounds recockulous, what could you do with those?

If you have the Pioneer system I can email you the wiring diagram if that helps.

I guess I will just measure it, no big deal. I let ya'll know the size, just in case you're currious.

Default thanks guys!

thanks for the welcome... yeah, I recently took a closer look at the area where those speakers were missing, and I located all the CLEAN CUT wire endings... weird.. the car was never reported stolen, and it seemed like nothing was ever tampered with (stereo, steering column, door locks...nothing... they didn't even take the car phone or anything, if it was an auto burglar that took the speakers!!?

I am gonna have to figure out what I want to do to replace them...

Hey, when I was looking at the sub from the trunk, I noticed a little small black box with a lock on, and a key sticking from it.. it was located between the back seat and the trunk, mounted UP... what was that for?

stock, non nakimichi, is 100% 10" subwoofer. But if you take out the stupid adapter thing a 12" will fit just fine.

Post Sub

The Nakamichi Sub is 11' , Odd sized, if you include the mounting which it is attached to you can call it a 12" sub but the woofer is only 11".

The opening once the stock sub is removed is 12"

Here's my proof:

Thanks for the help guys!

I just put my sub into a box and it sounds so much better!!! It doesn't make so much sound outside of the car, but inside, it sounds great.

When I was taking out the speaker, the stock grill broke, so now I need to buy a speaker grill to cover up that large hole in the rear deck. Does anyone here have an extra grill they would like to sell?

Did you know that you needed to take the back seat out in order to remove the rear deck cover.. thus allowing you to get to the sub?

I was able to take it out without removing the deck. The only thing that broke was the grill because it got brittle from the sun beating down on it.
