Default Good. Let's start the list.

I like the way this thread is going. Here's a recommended shopping list by someone who has done the SC.

--Turbocharger
--Intercooler
--Exhaust Manifold
--Downpipe
--Aftermarket Exhaust
--External WasteGate
--Oil Return & Oil Feed Lines
--Custom Piping
--BlowOff/Bypass Valve
--Additional Injectors or Bigger Injectors
--Additional Injector Controller or Aftermarket Fuel Controller
--Bigger or Additional Fuel Pump(s)
--Standalone ECU
--Metal HeadGasket
--New Head Studs
--Aftermarket Clutch (if applicable)
--Boost Guage

list taken from Angel's turbo faq

http://www.turboforum.net/lexus/pages/faq.html#999

obviously we can leave out the aftermarket clutch, what else do we need and is there anything on this list we can omit since we will not be running high boost? I'm thinking intercooler would be optional.

JZS17SEVEN what do you think? It sounds to me like you already have something brewing....

Default homework time!!!

"Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell $35
tells you almost everything you need to know about Turbocharging...
homework will definately save you $$$$ in broken & toasted parts..
after you spend $$$$$$$$$$$ to get it running right. hahahhahahahhahaha

My JZS147 is [under construction] and has been for 2 years
should be due in august @ our car show. Car will also be advertisement/promotion for My shop / dyno facility. i wanted to keep things simple(yet think unconventional)
doin a Supra is too easy and everybody has one.. yes its fast blah blah blah...
but all you Supra/SC guyz only get to take 1 chick on the ride with ya (ARISTO its a.... +3 ?)
Ballin it with big rims is too easy also.. everybody got it and nobody has flavor

Goals
-JDM ViP style
-American power levels 800hp (600rwhp to be proven on my Dynojet) through Automatic trans
-Show worthy engine bay, sacrafice no luxuries(just relocate them)
-clean interiour.. (leather to ~> Bride Cloth/Tweed interiour )
-show winner and 11's street tires...

That sounds an incredible project and an award-winning car. Best of luck with your business, too.

10-4 on that turbo book, I'll check it out. I don't know if it's in the book, but I just wanted to see with this thread :

a) what parts do we need and what can we omit at low boost
b) what companies have what parts, and who to avoid due to problems or lesser quality (whatever)
c) who's interested

It's clear we have some interest so I guess the next step is formulating this shopping list. It'd be cool of some of us went in to this together and that way we could help each other along the way.

No rush...I'm sure it'll take some time but it's easier to save up the $$$ for something if you know how much it is going to cost and have all the information about the project available.

JZS, can't wait too see that car tear up the track and turn some heads!

Definately get that Corky Bell book. I finished it a few weeks ago and it is a great resource. Will teach you everything you ever wanted to know. I'm actually amazed at how simple it is to build an efficient and reliable turbo system. All it takes is a bit of planning and just a smidgen of knowledge. Matter of fact; beside the manifold everything else is simply straight forward bolt on (except tapping oil pan for oil return line.)

I'll be doing a turbo setup in about a year time when i get sometime. I'm looking at a single setup with a cast iron log type manifold. Not sure where i can get a good manifold from. And can someone clarify if the bolts and such are the same on the Supra NA and the GS??? I've been told that it is not; but if it is it should be alot easier. But as of right now i'm looking at Toymoto or custom manifold mated to a nice T04, not sure about the trim or the A/R but that shouldn't be hard to find out. I'll probably run a remote wastegate and shoot that out the side of the car for effects. Fuel pump and get the TT injectors should hold the engine fairly well. The IC might be a pain but i'm seeing a Volvo or Starion FMIC as a possible source since the system won't be seeing anything over 12psi.

Cost wise; it should not exceed $3k for everything. Figure another thousand for cooling and other reliability mods and some gauges to go with the system. And a few hundred to tune the whole thing should net 3000whp.

Thanks for the input parisifal, and welcome to CL if you're new around here.

Check out DaveH on supraforums, he has just started making manifolds as part of his kit. "bean" here on clublexus bought one and recommends it. Anyway check the beginning of this thread - one links to supraforums with DaveH and the other is Bean's current progress with his install.

I don't think you can use the TT injectors - something about top and side feed. Here's some info:

pianoman,

you think $4000 will just get everything done including labor for turbocharging our gs?
i might hv that much at the end of this year but yet, im still debating if i shud use the money
for another daily driver car or put it on my gs for turbocharging. what do you think?

i like the idea of davidh on supraforums. i wonder if the kit he created will work with our gs as well,

I think it can be done for 4k.

with labor, probably not. but the hardest part, as parisifal just pointed out, is tapping the oil pan - the rest can be done without a lift, but you will need good tools, a garage and time for the install and troubleshooting.

And of course all the parts...any thoughts/experience on the T04 turbo for the GS? So far we have one vote for that.

I'm seriously considering putting the turbo on my GS and keeping it is my daily driver. This seems like too good an opportunity to pass up...

maybe I hang around the SC300 engine/transmission section too much...but what the heck I'm thinking why can't I do the NA-T thing, too, and then get some RESPECT on the streets. Right?

I'd love to see a First Gen NA-T project

You have to hang around and read anywhere and everywhere to get whatever info you can for your turbo project.

I wish you guys much luck

Company in Austin might have 1st gen NA-T kit in the works.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...threadid=86911

As Dr. Rick points out, there isn't any info up on their site yet but if someone is seriously interested there is an email address and you can ask them about it.

Hopefully it will retail for less or at least be of better quality than the FMAX kit which no one seems to recommend.

Just keeping ya'll in the KNOW.

If memory serves, he has the FMAX kit and I'm not sure if he installed it himself or not. I'm not going to bother him if he doesn't feel like sharing.

Pat,

PM "Lextreme" or check out his site, www.lexustreme.com. He was willing to help me, but i have since decided that an INJEN intake is all i really want.

mcnelson has the FMAX kit on his and it was on the car when he bought it. Sweet ride.

I'll be in Austin in a couple weeks, maybe I'll make some time to stop in and check out this shop.
