Default Where do I start (audio)?

Alright, so I've tried researching, looking through pictures, and much more. However, I feel like I'll get better answers here cause a lot of you have the exact same car as I do.

I'm wondering what I need for a custom sound system. I'd like to see what you guys recommend for the amp and woofers. Other than those items, I don't know what the hell I'm looking for. Like if I'm going to need a new in-dash radio or what. If you can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Again look at mine. If it's too much trunk room for you we can go a different route. I have a double din dvd in dash, 5.25" components up front in factory box, 4" coax in rear also in factory box. Then a 12w3 and 2 10w0 subs. Sounds good I think but does take up a fair amount of trunk space.

There are a lot of audiophiles on here man. I was MECA certified for a while so I used to do installations.

You want spl (sound pressure level) that will make your ears bleed, people feel you coming from 3 blocks away. Or. Do you want sq (sound quality) good clean, sharp bass? I've done both over the years. In working on a range of both now.

When, and you will have to eventually, replace your deck (cd player) you'll have to wire it in. Im running a Jensen double din DVD player.

HiFonics 5.25 " components up front, 5.25" coaxial the rear doors, and boss 4" custom mounted under the kick panels up front.

Once i install my amps I'm running 2 kicker amps, one 4 x 125, the other 1200 (600 rms) x 1 for the subwoofer. I was running a Memphis audio 12" but the sub popped, it was 8 years old so it was time.

Im gonna install a 12" Alpine type S in the rear deck and may eventually do what saiko2j did and run 2 of them. He's running 3.

Meca or mecp? I was mecp certified back when all I did was stereo install. I let that go in order to focus more on performance aspects. You never forget the basics just sometimes I feel out of the loop as far as top brands in audio. I've always ran jl audio and feel they have the best sound quality and you can get and kind of spl you want within their range. The w0 has the cleanest punchy bass for rock where I feel the w3 has the best overall spl and sq. Then you have the w6 option for more boom and w7 if you are crazy lol. I prefer focal high end for their efficiency and volume and more recently have been living the jl amps. Pretty small for their power level and clean sound.

It is all up to the type of music, how loud you want it and your budget.

I'm most interested in sound quality. I'm not concerned about people hearing me from a block away. I just want quality sound with no distortion while in the vehicle. What would you recommend?

I recommend jl audio for sound quality in a sub. For high end I prefer focal but last car I used jl audio high end. They are clean sounding but not as efficient so you dont get the volume.

I've not personally ran JL but their subs hit super sharp and can devastate all if need be.

Best clarity I've ran is Memphis audio. Clean , sharp bass. Can't push them hard though. Unless you shell out the cash for their higher end.

Best of both I've ran was Audiobahn. More on the loud than sharp side but still great bass.

Best loud I've ran is kicker. I tested to see what it would take to blow a 1000 watt 12" subwoofer, over 2400 watts and still shook the ground for a solid 5 minutes before frying the voice coils

Best speakers, not subs.

For clarity, infinity but need to be properly amped for good highs and mids

Best budget build, HiFonics but again need to be amped

Best unamped is probably Clarion or shockingly Memphis

Best amps

HiFonics hands down best I've ever used. Never fade. Never cut out.

Kicker is a close second

Boss used to be bad a$$ but they've lost their touch

Guys these are my personal opinions I'm not slamming any other brands, except that crappy wal Mart brand (schose maybe?) The ones that are like $25

I've recently purchased what I plan on installing in the car.

Head unit: Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS
Speakers: Kicker 41DSC54 D-Series 5.25"
Subwoofer: Kicker 10C104 - Free air sub
Amp: Sound Ordnance M-1350

Once everything is installed, I will take pictures and provide a review.
