Default 1996 Gs300

Hello all, have a couple questions. Put new tires on the car about a year ago when I got it. Sumitomos. I thought this might cure the problem but did not. The car feels like it is "Floating" on the highway?? Steering is not firm enough. Car kind of wanders?? Is this the norm for this car. WHen I got it had 44k miles, now has 52k and problem is still there. I drive the car infreqently as it is the wifes. Car is all stock except for the battery. Tires appear to be wearing ok.

Second question: Where to get some new old stock Lexus chrome wheels for it from that year??

Third: where is a good place to get Lexus parts/accessories below dealer markup?
Thanks

FLOATING?? thats what a lexus is suppose to feel like!! it just floats!! i know what you mean tho.. its probabaly the tires.. when i have my stocks on it does feel like that. the lexus steering is unlike anyother car. i also have a acura RL as a daily driver and the steering on it feels like a good ole honda.. nothing bad but not that "LEXUS" feel.. erick

check for tire pressure maybe?? maybe too much air. i dunno. i have Michelin tires on my stock GS and it feels smooth as heck. the steering is kinda soft though compared to a 300zx

Ok, tire pressures up to spec. Front end seemed tight when I changed the oil. Wife summed it up more towards "wandering" since she drives it more on the highway. I know about honda, I've had 3 of them and still have my 91 prelude. Steering feed back is great on that one. If you let go of the wheel while going 60, it went straight like an arrow, but on the Lex, you could call it the "wandering man".
I'm pretty sure at this point that I'm going to have to take it in, and not to the Dealer but a reputable garage. I don't trust dealers too much and from the reading last night here, a few of you are just as leary.

What is a good shock to go on the front end? Want something better than stock.

Compared to a Honda, the gs300 is floaty. It is supposed to be that way. Stiffer shocks, springs are going to help. Eibach, Intrax, TRD are some keywords to look in to. Run a search on this forum and because people have posted their opinions.

Also stick around this forum because we are trying to find a front tower brace that would really help with the floating.

I just don't know , mine doesn't float, except at very high speed, and I mean very fast, like almost flat out, 140 m/h and above...
I'm still on the original springs and shocks. I have 17" x 8.5, ls 400 wheels, they are very good rims. Don't want to change them for bigger ones. A lot of confort and I like the looks, except for that enormous gap.... so it's just about knocking that body down...but >>>>>> not lowered yet..... I don't know what I'm waiting for, it's not the money, I can afford it, I just can't decide which kind of lowering I would do... I heard so many different opinions about this.....and still can't decide..... weird huh ??! lol

well....

Default wandering

Wandering is probably either caused by an alignment issue or by the tires themselves. Some tires do what is called tramlining, where they are susceptible to wandering due to grooves in the road. On my AE86 Corolla, my old Nitto NT505s tramlined a lot. The current Yokahama Paradas don't do it at all. On my GS3, the Yokes don't have this problem until they get treadbare.

well yeah, it has a soft suspension.....so when you're flying down the highway you get the floating feel. so tighten that mother up and no more floating. its not rocket science
