HELP HELP what can it be????
guys i was having a problem with my 1995 gs. when i would drive it at night and i would be idling with the music on sometimes the battery light would flicker. i took it to midas and they said it was the alternator so i replaced the alternator yesterday adn the car is still doing it. it was a brand new alternator...can it be the alternator wires??what else would cause a car to lose power while it's on? and oh yeah yesterday their was this one instance when i couldn't let the car go under 900rpm or it would shut off. i had to drive it and then put it in neutral until i found some parking. when i got to the parking spot by mistake i let it go under 900rpm and it didn;t shut off. so i stood there for a while with the music on and the car idling, turn it off and then back on and alls well??can it be a loose contact or wire??PLEase HELP HELP
Whoever changed your alternator should have done a wiring check. Since you have a new alternator and a new battery, yet your car loses electrical power, there must be some bad wiring somewhere. Maybe a short circuit or corroded wiring is siphoning the power of the alternator and battery.
A competent mechanic should be able to check the wiring and find out where the problem is.

well it could be a few things......loose belt(not sure if we have a belt tensioner), loose connection, or loose or incorrect mounting of alternator. who did your install? if you had it done by someone take it back and have them troubleshoot. if you did it yourself double check all your work. and it would have been nice to known if you did do it yourself to ask for install tips. but double check everything in any case but it sounds to me like a loose belt if you have to rev it up when you go under 900rpm. keep us updated

oh and did you get a refurbished alt? could be bad out the box....it's been known to happen....maybe some bad diodes?

the alternator is new...i installed it but their is no way to have the belt on tooo loose the alternator goes on with two nonadjustable screws and the tensioner sets itself. i doubt its the belt. I'm guessing wiring because the problem has stayed the same when i replaced the alternator. i'm gonna take th car to advanced and tell them that the alternator they sold me isn't working. then they'll run a test to see what it is. its confusing because both advanced and midas told me it was the alternator. can loose or corroded wires be the cause of an alternator fault indication??
it could be a fusible link or something to that effect. i'm not to familiar with our cars charging system and my car is back at the shop so i can't look at mine to get an idea. if you have a test light you could easily check for your self. if you have a voltmeter you could check the alt. to make sure its working. but if you have no experience with this your best bet is to have a pro do it. good luck.
Same thing happened to my Aristo, I too thought it was wiring or something. I took it to a Toyota shop and tried to explain to the Japanese guy what was going on. He took a small screw and screwed it in between the battery post (terminal or whatever it's called) and the battery wire clamp (looks Ghetto if you even notice it). I haven't had a problem since and this has been weeks. He told me to come back a few days later for some new battery clamps...but the problem is solved, so I'll keep that $15
Good luck-
