Default Alternator Options HELP!

Hey guys, I'm still pretty new to the forums, but I ran into an issue and was hoping I could get some help from the pros.

My alternator took a big dump on me. I was looking at our options, and it seems the OEM is rated at 80 amps, do we have any other options aside from the OEM that are straight-up plug+play?

I hear 1J guys use SC300 alternators because they both have the round plug, but I think we have an boxier one? Any help would be appreciated, I gotta let the mechanics know by tomorrow, or stock is the default. But since I plan on running to batteries with auxiliary interior lighting in the near future, I wanted to know what my options were before throwing $100 at this.

There are companies that rebuild the OEM with a higher output. I got mine on ebay. It was 165amp, a bit overkill. A thing to consider is that the higher the output of the alt the more rpm's it will take before it will begin charging the battery. I had a one step smaller pulley put on the alternator to help it charge at lower speed. To also compensate I installed a deep cell battery(optima yellow).

Thanks a lot Kaiser, I ended up getting an 80amp, OEM remanned Denso. I would prefer something with higher output like what you went with. Is this on your 01 GS430? I'd like to upgrade my 1GS. I'd also like to know more about the alternator you got, is it plug and play?

I pulled a yellow optima off of the shelf this past weekend myself, and am going to run both a dry cell and a regular battery at the same time. I plan on running a lot of interior lighting, and it almost seems necessary if running a system and HID's.

Thanks for the tips!

No I had a 1G. You shouldn't need two batteries for just lighting if you have a yellow top. HID's actually draw less power than standard halogen.

Used to be. Now if you run a red top empty, it won't be the same and it's shelf life is limited.
