Default Slow Cranking start

I've looked over the various threads and couldnt find a proper reason for what im experiencing.

When i go to start up the car for the first time in the day, it cranks over really slow, i would hear it turn over 3-4 times really really slow before finally starting. anytime after i would start it it would fire right up without hesitation. it just does it after maybe 5+ hours of sitting. the battery and alt are fine, what could it be?

i've had starter issues before but when the starter usually dies it usually makes a clicking sound. could this mean my starter is on its way out? could it be the battery cables?

any help would be great.

My experience with cold starting has been battery's that are getting week even though the voltage is good. Check your voltage when the car is dead cold and hasnt been started for a while.

Mine was doing that recently and I thought the battery was fine until I had it load tested. It was weak.

I have a 585 CCA group 24 battery in my SC400 and it cranks slow when cold, but is random after warm up. Sometimes it kicks over very fast, sometimes it sounds like its goinf to start clicking. This is a new (reconditioned) battery from Walmart as I dont drive this much. I already returned one after 4 months that wouldnt even crank after 3 weeks. This is not the same group battery but the CCA is similar to the longer OEM group battery. I think the starter solenoid contact is spent. Its the metal contact that closes when you energize the starter and routes hi amp current to starter windings. Like points in a distributor, it wears over time. Too bad its in the middle of the motor.....Its a $8 part inside the starter itself.
