Default NOT GOOD...Expert Input please.

Alright, my engine has been smoking, figured it was a leak from VCG or dist oring. Fixed, but not the problem.

Smoke is coming out of manifold along with oil seeping thru manifold gasket. I am assuming my rings are fried. Car doesnt overheat or anything so I assume the HG is ok, or at least still holding the coolant..

Is it worth me rebuilding the engine or should I just get another engine and swap it?

Also...when i did changet he dist Oring, I set the timing back to TDC and put the dist back in, and tried setting the timing back to 10deg with a timing light(yes I did jump TE1 and E1 and have the light connected to 1st spark plug wire)...the little marker on the underdrive pulley was waaaay off to the left from 10 and 0 degree markings, no matter which way I turn the dist it never got anywhere close to them...

I assume you mean smoke out the exhaust manifold and not the intake ?
Have you done a compression or leakdown test yet ?

Sounds like you put the distributor back in 180 degrees off. When you put the distributor back in the dial on crank pulley and the cams have to be zero'd. If you look at the cams you will see little grooves engraved on one arm of the pulley. Then you will see an indentation on the metal shield above the cam gear. You need to line the crank and cams, then put the distributor back in.

I thought I did that too, so I tried 0'ing out and lined it all up. I'll look again int he morning.

As far as the oil coming out of my exhaust manifold, could that just be worn rings or something else? I checked my cylinders and they all seemed relatively clean and carbon free. I did not get time to do a compression check yet, but did do a leakdown...and have no coolant issue.

What did the leakdown tell you? I have a lot more faith in leakdown's than compression tests anyway.

Are you sure it's not the cam cover seal? Those commonly go bad and leak.

Turns out I did goof and put the timing 180 off... although when I set the underdrive pulley to 0 and cams to match indentions on cam cover, and put the distributor in the car wouldnt start at all...it would crank and make a PING!

I dont see any markers on the distributor to make sure i'm putting it on the rigth way...

I resolved the timing issue, no matter how many times I do it...always some small thingy..

My main concern is just smoking coming out of the exhaust manifold, smells like oil. I just need to get rid of the car...so sad. =(

Are you sure the cam cover seal is just not leaking onto the hot exhaust manifold?

Don't get rid of the car!

I have a 110k mile 2JZGE engine I'd be happy to sell you. 400 + shipping.

Kaiser- I know it is not something leaking on the manifold anymore, becuaes I washed the engine down with degreaser and see no signs of external oil. After a drive, I did notice a milky/oily liquid bubbling out between the manifold and head...

savanna- I shall keep that in mind, but I've had the car for about 100k miles now, I'd rather hand the car to someone who has the energy to fix it. It is a great car, plus some DVD and chrome wheel action to spruce up the ad in autotrader.

Milky oily is not a good thing. You know that's coolant and oil mixed to make the milky right? Any pics of the car and an idea of what you want for the roller?
