I just bought a jensen double din 6.5 inch touch screen to go in my 96 gs. Was wondering if anyone had any luck putting a double din in. Shop told me they'd custom install it for 250, but sounds like they're trying to get me. I'd appreciate the help.

 

Well, there are no doulbe din dash kits for our car, so you will have to make your own. Other than that, its real easy to wire in a new deck.

 

i put in a 6.5in dvd player myself i used the old mounts. i got lucky tho because the width of the deck was just perfect. i had to drill into a previous hole that held the deck but it turned out ok. I have to have a custom plastic piece made to go around the deck now because there is open space on the sides and bottom. Oh and if you are gonna do it youself be careful when you take out the ashtray. mine broke on the side and part of the woodgrain broke off too. I can take a pic and post it when i get a chance!!

 

Carson sells a double din mount and Ive seen them online before. The online ones look like some junk. The one from Carson is a true Toyota part. It matches the color of the factory radio perfectly

 

I believe the double din radio kit carson sells are only for the 98-05 GS and not for the 1st Gen.

Dude, I didnt even know that, it doesnt look too bad, theres a little bit of gap, but not too much, looks good.
