Welcome to the forums Craig, lots of good people here. You have a nice looking ride there, glad to hear you are considering future mods. When you asked about a panel filter vs. induction kit did you mean a new intake system?,,, Or where you referring to a forced induction system?
I would'nt know about a quiet exhaust system, as mine is a bit rrrrrrobust! (like how I rolled that R). But you will find alot of controversy here over intake vs. drop-in filter. I have an intake system, which adds a bit of sound to the performance gain, and it takes up less space in the engine compartment. As far as tuning goes I'd start from the inside out, start with fluids and filters ( I recommend AMSOil (they make filters too) and Militec1 (use as directed), and work your way to some bolt on mods. If you have high mileage you might want to make a freind in the mechanical field or get a shop manual and torque wrench for a valve adjustment. Change the plugs and wires (upgrade to some 8mm wires and some Iridium plugs ((Unless you go turbo, then get a colder plug)). Remove the clutchfan assembly and replace it with an electric fan (you can tap into the secondary fan, or wire it to the ignition for constant cooling), that will reduce rotational mass for quicker throttle response and give you better gas mileage. There are tons of things you can do that are small but they add up to a nice improvement.

Again, good to have you here.
p.s. be sure to check those balljoints!
Cheers buddy
The ball joints where replaced before i got the car. so they are fine
I would love to go Turbo but the cost over here is silly be cheaper to sell the car and buy an aristo (watch this space on that )
been looking into the panel filter/intake system and there are mixed results so not sure at the moment, There are some good tuners ober here so might go and talk with one of them.
