Default A/C system replacement cost

Has anyone had their entire A/C system replaced? I have what I believe to be a rather large leak in my system. Are large leaks easy to repair or should I just have the whole system replaced? Anyone know the rough cost to have this done and turn around time? It's far too effin' hot to be without A/C!!!

Thanks again guys & gals!!!!

A large leak or a small leak, it costs about the same for the same parts. Are you using 134a freon?

A good A/C speciality shop should be able to give you a good ides of what it would take to resolve the leak or leaks. Chances are you have a rock hole in the front condenser. Or the compressor seal has expired.

A new dryer would be recommended. It's normally replaced when the freon and compressor oil is replaced.

The cost of the complete system replacement may out weigh the value of your vehicle.

Tammy's right. When mine went out, Lexus wanted 2000 to fix it. I got it fixed for about 600 though, but my dads friend hooked me up. No labor charges.

I went through several with our Cressida. Except for the basic plumbing and blower motor, most the componets were replaced. Cost was $1,400-$1,600. Don't use any "lifetime" remanufactured parts...I went through enough to give me constant replacement problems. Get Toyota remanufactured or new if available and a good shop to install it.

In my case, it was a trip to the dealer and it was well worth it. after they did it, I didn't have any other A/C problems. The 3 previous shops failed miserably and ironically all of them at the time were listed in AAA's book of shops.
