Does anyone have any experience with those DIY air conditioning stop-leak or sealer products? I know there are two types, one is an actual sealer for large holes in the system and the other is a rubber conditioner or oil designed to swell o-rings and seals to fix small, slow leaks. I definitely wouldn't ever use the sealer-type but what about the conditioner/oil type for the o-rings?
I have a persistent slow leak where I lose about half my refrigerant over 12 months. Its in the evaporator, an expensive repair. My compressor has also been sketchy, sometimes it seizes up and won't run. I have a new compressor to fix that problem but for the slow leak it would be nice to be able to fix it easily and cheaply.
I'll ask my mechanic what he thinks but does anyone else know anything about these products?
i wouldnt put any stop leak in the system.that stuff will ruin everything in the system, seals compressor and the like.i would fix it the right way if you are going to keep it,if your not put anything in it.good luck.
Theres gotta be like an auto AC forum. I would think most people on this forum(first post I ve seen on AC problems) have no experience with this problem and quick fixes. Good luck.
if its just a beater, id just say add freon as needed, if its something nice fix it correctly dont use those products. if you don't have the tools, take it to a shop and have it done. to get the best performance you will need to find the leak, suck the system down, vacuum the system and recharge.
