Default engine cleaning

hey guys,
does anybody have any idea how to clean the engine.
the guys at the car wash usually cover up up some parts of the engine and clean with some liquid.
i want my engine to shine but would like to do it myself. (u know, detailed cleanig so the oil and grease are all out).
any suggestions

Cool

Pressure wash, however keep the spray away from the top of the engine and the distributor Follow up with armor all on the plastics.
