Default steam cleaning engine...

has anyone steam cleaned their engine? (for car shows, b4 a sale, etc...)how much did it cost?

Don't know if you did a search on this topic, but generally you should avoid steam cleaning. The steam infiltrates the electronic connectors and can cause shorts and corrosion, and with some of the modules used in our engine compartments costing $500 to $1000, it's really not worth the risk. Here's what an expert suggests (scroll down to paragraph 5 for reinforcement of what i just said, as well);

That's a pretty good "how To" on the issue, without the extreme associated risks of steam cleaning. Best of luck.

i don't steam clean.... but i pressure wash the engine all the time. I use simple green in its concentrated form as a degreaser/cleaner.

Are you aware that Simple Green discolors aluminum? You might be safer using a citrus product like Orange Blast.

No i wasn't aware of it but i've been using it as long as I can remember and its never messed with my aluminum. I'll give the Orange Blast a try though i think i have some laying around.
