Default Window trim

I'm aware that the window trim detatching is a common problem for the 1st generation GS, and most who decide to repair it just replace it. Now, I'd normally pay any price to keep my GS looking its best, but replacing these mouldings will cost about $300 in parts only for each door. That's ridiculous, in my book.

My question is, has anyone tried reshaping/ re-attatching the existing mouldings? I was looking at mine the other day, and figure whatever was holding them together in the first place can be re-applied. I love my GS, but I'd be liar if I said the wind noise and detatched trim isn't making me sick.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

before people jump all over you with the "Search" flame... lemme just say, it all depends on how bad the piece has gotten. If it's not seriously warped then some jb weld will do just fine as a cheap fix. However, if the wind and sun have really taken their toll, then you're outta luck... trust me. As for reattaching the clips, their so old and brittle that they'll most likely crumble the second you try to remove them.

Does anyone have better instructions on how to take the trim off without breaking anything? Like from the shop manual or something?

Default Sorry but I don't think that you can remove it....

with out bending it some more..I had my 2 drivers side done about a month and a half ago and I got a really good deal.It was still pricey but no more wind!!!!!When my mechanic put them on I had him put some black silicone on the spots that lift up.And for your those of you that don't know exactly what breaks, it's 1 plastic clip that deteriorates with time and of coarse weather. As a solution you may want to try to remove it slightly and put silicone behind the area and clamp it down over night.I didn't try but if you have the time it's probably worth the time....

to remove the trim you have to remove the door panel and the trim that goes around the entire door and you have to remove the side view mirror. When your done removing all that you still have remove 2 bolts that hold the window track.Once you have all that done you have all the bolts and screws that have to remove right in front of you.Remove the screws and bolts and the entire window trim will be loose.Hope this helps, let us know how it goes.....

I appreciate the responses. It seems as though heat/sunlight over the years is the trim's worst enemy, though. I think the JB Weld sounds like something worth trying, I'll most likely give that a shot over the weekend.

If that doesn't work, I guess I'm going to have to face replacement.

Default jB weld may be a little perminent....

Especially since the door portion is metal. You may want to try something that isn't sooo bonding ..I'm no expert but I have used JB weld in the past and it's pretty strong and very bonding..just a thought..
