Mixtapes
. plus unlike burning cd's you get a sweet cover and a professional looking cdsome sites:
http://store.cheapmixtape.com/ $5.50 each free shipping after 3 cd's
http://smashwax.com/mixtapes.html $6, buy 3 get 1 free
The hard part is digging through the garbage wannabe Clues that think yelling their name and someone elses lyrics over a track makes them a mixtape DJ. The better ones bring something real to the table such as exclusive tracks/remixes/freestyles, blends/mashing (lyrics from one song over beat from another), seamless mixing between tracks accompanied by juggling/scratching tricks etc etc.
Some of the better DJ's, IMO:
Tony Touch
DJ Vlad
DJ Rectangle
Green Lantern
I've ordered from this site a couple of times with success: http://www.mixtapemurder.com/
On another note-what part of Kansas are you from? I'm in KC....
I discovered these gems back in about '95, when they were actually still tapes!

.what do u think of dj smallz? i guess he's under your "wannabe dj's" but usually he has tight songs on his cds. also, when u get mixtapes what are they like? the ones i get although looks professional, the cd looks pretty plain except for the dj, album name, etc. am i getting bootlegs?
Some people can deal with the shout outs, yelled over lyrics and silly echo sound effects, to me it ruins the songs to have to hear all that trash.
It's hard to tell if they are bootlegs or not, that also depens on what a "bootleg" mixtape is. In most cases the DJ's don't have permission to use the songs anyway, so they are in effect bootlegging the songs (the reason you can't buy the mixtapes we're talking about at Best Buy). I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Can someone please post several examples of KNOWN good mix cd's and links to where I can get them?
I don't know ANYTHING about DJ X from DJ Y, but I have heard some mix music before that I would love to have and play in my car. Sounded awesome. But again, I don't know one from the other.
Can one of you gentleman help out? Who and link to, please.
