thats actually the original reason these things were made in japan, not for style purposes.

 

How do these mounts? Drilling new holes?

 

probably, because the holes in your USDM bumpers will NOT line up with the jap spec holes in any of these brackets, which also means the brackets usually have to be modified to be able to attach the US plate as well.... had one of these (different brand) and it turned out to be such a pain i gave up on it. they also make a style of this that is two separate pieces/hinges which would obviously work with any plate and any pre drilled holes.. just have to look around online.

 

this is the one w/two separate pieces so u can adjust the width to fit the USDM license plate
