They are currently building a massive battery plant not too far from where I live.

It will certainly add to the competition.

It will make all current EVs obsolete. The current manufacturers will be dumping inventory as Toyota/Lexus ramps up production.
This part still remains to be seen.

so is ford, and others.

what source do you have that toyota will have volume solid state battery production next year? what i've read indicates there's no guarantee any time soon especially given toyota's well earned reputation for reliability (thus will need loads of testing time).

Yep, it's all over. That SSB that Toyota said was coming out in 2017 will negate Tesla's 13 year lead. Elon, pack your bags . I'm just playing with you @VTHokie79 . Very optimistic, but I'll have to see it to believe it

I gotta get married or something to qualify for that $7500 EV tax credit, lol.
I don't know what your budget is, but as others have stated already, you can get the $7500 credit by leasing. Several manufacturers are passing it down to their customers regardless of income. I just got a lease on a 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5...they applied $7500 "cash bonus" and $2000 incentive from Hyundai to the MSRP.

When it comes to EV's, my mantra is Tesla = buy, all others = Lease.
