Lately it’s setting all the wrong trends. I do believe that ICE cars will be banned their first.
Good. Sooner we stop burning oil to move our cars the better.
The shift to EVs is not being done naturally but with government intervention through incentives both for the consumers and the car manufacturers.
Shift to fossil fuel has been the most heavily subsidized industry in the last 100 years it's not even close.

New York State does not have great public transportation, New York City does. That's an important distinction. 20.2M people live in all of NYS. But the NYC metro, or specifically the New York–Northern New Jersey–Long Island Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is 20.1M people. The number two, three, and four MSAs in NYS--Buffalo, Rochester, and Albany/Schenectady, are all right around 1 million each. And while they do have some basic public transportation, it mostly amounts to a few dozen bus routes. Only Buffalo even has a train system. The rest of the state is fairly rural.

California, on the other hand, though it has about the same amount of its citizens living in urban areas (~94% for each state), the difference is they're not all in a single urban area with a population roughly equal to that of the entire state. But even if you limit yourself to just the most comparable Greater Los Angeles, you've got a slightly lower population (18.5M) in TEN TIMES the space--33,954 sq mi vs. 3,450 sq mi. A bit more difficult and expensive to make an effective public transportation system for. California overall has seven MSAs with populations of over 1M, and all of them are very large compared to NYC. Overall, it has roughly double the population of NYS (39.2M vs. 20.2M).

So you should not be surprised that NYC has a great public transportation system, while the ginormous and spread out state of California does not.

I really don't really feel like riding a bus or taxi anyway. lol

Hope the EV wars continue because I believe it will cause innovation and lower prices.
Yeah, I can dream cuz the days of abundant low cost cars is over... IMO

All this t"ech" and cars are more expensive than ever and it's sad.

Completely disagree lol. My brother btw just got a new Escalade ESV to carry around his kids, dogs, babysitter etc. He lives in a building in the city. There are many ppl that need private cars as they have families, pets etc.

The congestion is mostly caused by taxis, limo service and ubers not by commuters or ppl actually residing in Manhattan.

Thanks for correcting that. That's still a huge market, ALMOST as big as the two most populated states combined

Tesla just cut prices, again yesterday. I think this must have been the 5th price cut this yr to juice demand. So far it really hasnt worked. I think with all the economic and political turmoil and rates going up, people are less inclined to spend money on expensive toys. EVs are essentially toys for the rich or perhaps upper middle class right now.

I'm not sure how you came up with that conclusion when they literally just had their best quarter ever, are continuing to expand and add factories. Model Y is not available until June. You must be reading different numbers than I am

This I agree with. The only "affordable" new EV's are compact tiny ugly things.

Tell me what new car is affordable? Basic Civic is nearly $30K...before dealership markups. Prius is over $40K before dealership markups. There are no affordable new cars. BTW the Bolt is a very good looking affordable EV, IMHO of course which is priced similar to a Civic/Corolla

So what you are saying is the price cuts worked and the reason that Tesla had their best qtr ever was due to the price cut? If EVs are in such great demand, there is no reason for Tesla to cut prices at all.

Electric vehicles don't magically make people have more money.
