Could be, Polestar buyers do tend to slant very left on the spectrum. The hate for Elon and Tesla seems to be shared though with other EV buyers as well

Got to really test out the performance upgrade and put my Polestar through the paces. The torque really hits after 20 mph, but hits hardest between 50 and 90 mph. Didn't think you could get electric motors to run any smoother, but there you go! Totally worth the money, anyone reading this with a Polestar, get the performance upgrade. Don't walk...run

Did a quick run in my Polestar, it was only a 5 block stretch so I ran out of road quickly before hitting the light. Throttle was down about 50 percent to 3/4, I couldn't go full because I ran out of road! Also, speedometer could not keep up!

Quick note: Power is when the graph moves to the right, the white bar moving to the left is regen when letting off the throttle

One more note regarding the Performance upgrade for the Polestar...the best thing about it is not the additional power or torque (although more power and torque=better), but the way they remapped the throttle response. You no longer have to press as hard on the throttle, they made it way more responsive so now the pedal feels softer. Just on that basis alone the Performance upgrade is worth it. Efficiency has not changed, so far it's about the same. Glad I pulled the trigger on it!

When you say only 5 blocks please tell me you didn't send it in a residential lol!

Nice, take it outside the city and give it some room

LOL no. It was an open wide street outside of a residential area, no cars or people at the time. When I get a chance I'll try from a freeway onramp. Unfortunately the next 10 days we have bad weather with storm systems, so I'll wait for a dry, sunny clear day

Can a car actually get better over time? A reflection of 1 year of ownership of the Polestar brand

January 3rd marked the official 1 year ownership of my Polestar 2. As most know, I ordered the car on a lease which was delivered last year. Since then, I've put nearly 12K on the odometer, gone through several OTA software updates, taken several long distance trips to SoCal and back, and burned through thousands of kW's of power. I've driven it through various conditions, cold weather, hot weather, extreme hot weather, wet and icy roads. And it's performed for the most part like a champ. So here are the pro's and con's of this particular brand, starting with the pros

Build quality is excellent. No rattles, everything has held up to the quality promised
A very unique look that separates it from the competition, and it still gets attention to this day
Simplistic cabin, good instrument layout, and Infotainment system built on easy to use Google Automotive
Performance is amazing and consistent, instant power at any speed, excellent suspension setup tuned for handling
Smooth and quiet going 10 mph or 80 mph
Software updates have for the most part improved performance and efficiency making the car better over time
Can control a lot features in the Polestar app, including using my phone as a key
Polestar support is excellent
Readily available fast charging networks when travelling
Saves me a ton of money ($30 to $60 a month electricity, no maint, oil changes etc)

Cons

Not built on a dedicated EV platform like Tesla or the Ioniq 5 (shares the same ICE platform as it's Volvo counterpart)
Only has a 400v charging system, so supports up to 150 kW Fast Chargers (can use 350 kW Fast chargers though)
Fast charging network not as robust as Tesla's
Only 3 Polestar repair facilities in California (Polestar Los Angeles, Polestar San Jose, Polestar marin)

As you can see from the list, the cons are way less than the pros. The biggest con, which would also be true for any non Tesla EV as well, is the Fast charging networks. When travelling, there are less of them, and they are just not as reliable as Tesla's. That being said, they still exist and make it possible to travel as I've done many times last year. And they are improving as automakers and government are pouring money to build them out. Electrify America, the charging network I mainly use when travelling as been making incremental improvements, and they are installing new updated Fast chargers in heavily travelled corridors.

Future plans for my Polestar

This year my wife's 2020 Hyundai Ioniq EV's lease will be up. It's a great vehicle, but it just doesn't have the range (150 miles on a full charge), so I will be returning it. In its place I will be buying a Tesla Model 3 Performance, and I will be giving my wife my Polestar. In 2025 when my Polestars lease comes up, I will most likely buy it, as I will be able to buy it out for a really good price...I ordered it before the price hikes. It has a 10 year/100K warranty on the drivetrain and HV battery, so if I can get a good 10 years out it I'll be happy

Nice update. Were you able to get Polestar to cover your performance upgrade based on the issues you had or did you have to pay for it? Regardless I would’ve paid it in a heartbeat.

I paid for it, but they had reimbursed me for a months lease, so I paid less for it. It all worked out, even if I paid full price for it, totally worth it! I'm now somewhat competitive with a M3P

Polestar Confirms Sales Of Roughly 51,500 Electric Cars In 2022

The company now aims for 80,000 units in 2023

Polestar officially announced its global electric car sales results in the fourth quarter of 2022 and for the full year of 2022.

According to the company, in Q4, approximately 21,000 vehicles were delivered to customers, which is a new quarterly record (compared to 9,215 in Q3 and 21,200 in the first half of the year).

The preliminary estimate for the full-year global volume reached 51,500 - close to 80 percent more than a year ago (29,000 in 2021). In other words, the final result is even a bit higher than the initially reported 50,000 units.

50,000 sales was Polestar's target for 2022, after a downward revision from the original 65,000 units (reduced by 15,000 units or 23 percent).

Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath said:
"I’m proud of the many milestones we achieved in 2022 and in particular the massive team effort that went into delivering our strongest quarter to date – surpassing our 50,000 global volumes target for the year."

2023 target - 80,000

Now, Polestar is focused on 2023. This year, the brand intends to raise the bar by nearly 60 percent and achieve 80,000 electric car sales - mostly the Polestar 2 with a small dose of the upcoming Polestar 3.

An interesting thing is that, according to Thomas Ingenlath, the company is working to improve its supply chain "to meet the growing demand for Polestar 2." It means that the production capacity in China, rather than demand, is the main limiting factor for the Polestar 2 model. That's a positive sign for the company, especially in such a challenging market situation around the world.
"We are now fully focused on 2023. There will be the usual quarterly variations, but I’m confident that we will continue to actively manage our supply chain to meet the growing demand for Polestar 2, commence first deliveries of Polestar 3 and launch Polestar 4,"

Of course, we will continue to monitor the sales level of Polestar, just like any other electric car brand, to see how things progress

Out of curiosity, did you have any interest in the Kia EV6 GT or upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5 N?
