The brake feel might be better but the brakes will fade and fail quite rapidly for track duty. Of course you can upgrade them quite easily so no big deal...just mo money!!!

That goes without saying but that wasn't the primary issue of the original brakes, which was stopping power on the track. Obviously anyone who tracks any car 24/7 will have to replace their brakes with carbon ceramics.

I wonder if the brakes feel different in regular mode and not just track mode. I hope they implemented the improved brakes in all modes.

still, very impressive update!

but yeah, driving a large sedan on a track is for grins, not serious.
It will very likely not be good for range using it on the street as it has to keep the battery cool to counteract for extra heat of driving it hard.

I wonder how many Plaid owners will go to to the track regularly and use it to its full extent? Compared to a similar track focused vehicle like a Porsche GT3
Probably a handful of owners I would imagine. It's still a big 4 door sedan weighing close to 4800 lbs. Definitely not a track car like a GT3 or any light car tuned for a track.

Why didn't it come with this? I would leave it in this mode all the time if I had one, probably would kill the battery and motors though.

Nah. Won't kill battery or motor. It will probably kill your AC condensers though. They will be on full blast the whole time.

that didn't take long (for someone to say they'd use it on the street).

  • We also increase regenerative braking power, which has three major benefits: re-capture more energy during deceleration, reduce load on the friction brakes for better thermal management, and give the driver better modulation and controllability with a single pedal.
so it helps to reduce the load on brakes, thus helping thermal, and therefore hopefully longer runs before brake fade. but having stronger regen brakes don't help to have stronger brakes or shorter brake distance

Oh I bet it will, I usually only get 1/2 range in a Tesla or worse when I drive one. Any and all chances I take with powerful cars lol!

I can't stop myself, I have to just drive something slow to not go fast. I hate holding a car back from what it can comfortably do

Thats totally up to tires. Brakes don't make a difference provided they can lock the wheels at a given speed, anything past that is fade resistance and ability to brake evenly under any loading.

Track rats actually don't like carbons, they tend to explode and can't take thermal shock like steel in some cases and are obscenely expensive and doesn't allow long enough lifespan and resistance to damage to make sense.

The plaid is just too heavy. That kind of weight will build up insane heat into any type of brake system, a carbon system just resists it longer. Steels at least are cheap to replace when/if you use them up.

I got the update the other day but there has been snow and ice this entire week and I’m on summer tires so I can’t try it out until it gets warmer out. I’m not sure if this is a mode I would regularly drive in but who knows.

Feedback from an owner that got the update on how it changes the car

"To answer some questions, yes, you can drive with this full time, but you lose some features when it is turned on such as NAV search, cruise control, autopilot, and other items, it not meant for the street, but it's just fine on the street. Yes it eats more battery, I could care less though, as it will now be my new fun mode. The extra fan noise and drama adds to the experience; it's now an occasion to drive in this mode."
