Agreed. Kind of alarming how many ICE sports sedans went around the track much faster.
Why is it alarming, ICE sedans are much more superior/suitable for tracks/longer endurance racing/driving not to mention they are able to be refueled in seconds/few minutes compared to long charge times. 0-60/drag is where EV's can accel, other then that not so much when it comes to performance/racing. There are not many enthusiasts clamoring for a Model S, it was never considered a enthusiast sports sedan no matter how quick it could do some 0-60's.

I'm sorry but not all enthusiasts are looking for a Ring king. Track enthusiasts wouldn't really be interested but the whole purpose was to show that the car is now capable of doing this even with a completely unoptimized, family sedan setup. This isn't an M series car...this is a family sedan with a big motor upgrade. Doesn't even have track mode. Its a showcase of the powertrain capabilities including the new battery cooling.

Exactly how does this have anything to do with a car's ability to be a great handling/enthusiast sports car? Absolutely nothing.
And yet, the gas Porsche Panamera Turbo (also big and heavy) did it faster.
i would hope it would lol... the nurburgring has essentially been the porsche proving grounds for decades (even before the nurburgring was 'a thing') so theoretically no company should know that place better than porsche
and as others have already said the panamera is a 'sports car sedan' but the tesla is primarily a race between the lights beast

talk about moving the goalposts ... all we've been seeing on here ever since the plaid came out is that it's the fastest car on earth, yet as soon as it's put to the test on a track (as opposed to some meaningless 2 second sprint) it comes up short (but still AMAZING).
the plaid IS incredible! no question about it. the acceleration is blistering, world class and best in class! a track course though (including the public nurburgring) tests much more than just acceleration. And all the fastest public road vehicles tested there are very close to one another. I believe an F1 car did it a while back though and showed what's really possible.
