CNBC: BYD Rising

Because our government says so? Because they don't bow down to us? Sorry, I don't buy into that propaganda. I don't want to get into any political traps, I'll just say, they are not my enemy. Far from it.
Right now I'm a loyal Tesla buyer, but if BYD comes to NA with a better value proposition, I have no issues switching

LOL....how times have changed. Go back to the 1980s and everyone was up in arms about Japanese cars. Guess now they're all ok
The consumer will almost always go for the best and least expensive car. If a Chinese company can produce a very good car that helps people, why not. I can't imagine how the US government is going to spin this into a national security threat. Oh, maybe the cars will spy on the drivers (as if they didn't already).
ps. BYD is already bigger than Tesla in terms of sales in EVs (BEV+PHEV) I think.

The gas crisis helped making their imports look more attractive.
It took many years for Japanese mfgs to build trust and brand loyalty.
I'm not someone who will buy something of significant purchase price based on looks and feel.
Reputation adds massive value for me.
Even on the little stuff.
I will reach for Milwaukee cordless tools for 3x the price of imports that may have good reviews but no long term reputation.
It would be different if I could visit the factory. Lol

Right now, BYD sales are mostly in China, and exports are very low to Western Europe due to high pricing. I dont expect them to compete with Tesla in anything but share ownership, probably more of VW and Ford competition. Which doesnt mean that there wont be PR articles everywhere, I just noticed several different YT accounts sharing same video of BYD v1.1 update, which was a bit comical, one of the 5 items on the list was open source license update.

it is not going to be that easy. In the tik-tok age, everyone is great, until proven otherwise. Japanese and Korean manufacturers had to had decades of owner experience before general public wanted to switch.

That's not what my friend experienced when he drove in them when he was in India last year. He said the quality of the cars was very good, and they were well built. His words to me were something to the effect of when they eventually come to the US, he thinks other automakers will have serious competition. I'll try and get some pics from him next time I see him
Furthermore to my last point, BYD has managed to sell 300k vehicles in Q1, where expectations are for Tesla to surpass them by a healthy margin to regain largest EV maker again when they report Q1 sales tomorrow.

Possible. But I can only go off of what has been reported. I too, do not have personal experience with a BYD product.

Yup. More than likely will be low, but 100k-150k below expectations though?!?! I mean, anything is possible but sheesh. Would be a major blow if they could only manage to sell 300k units.

BYD falling, sales are down 44& QoQ. Looks like the warnings about China's economy tanking were correct.

I totally agree with you. I was only saying that if BYD makes a great product that is as good or better than Tesla, I would consider it. I have no personal experience with BYD, so they would have to prove to me they made a good product. I can care less if it's a Chinese company or not
