Wawa has a partnership with Tesla. Most newer locations in my area have multiple Superchargers. Some of the older locations are being upgraded as well. If i recall correctly, they had about 700 chargers across their stores with plans to 2-3x that as quickly as possible.

Possibly because there is already way too much traffic coming through Costco
I agree, Costco (and similar) make very good cases for charging locations. You're going there anyway, you're parking there anyway, you're probably spending half an hour or more there anyway, and that time spent parked can get you charged up at slightly beneficial member rates while making money for Costco etc. Wouldn't surprise me at all if we see some of these pop up in future.

Costco is opening a location about 5 mins drive from me (current closest one is 15 mins) and in looking at the application submitted to the city, there is no mention of any EV charging station(s). There is however a provision for a gas station. I thought that was strange that there is nothing planned for EV charging.

Its a fairly big spot too (1000 parking spots) with two levels of parking - surface and underground.

Bucees which is a huge gas station with over 100 gas pumps which now have locations with as many as almost 50 superchargers as well. It’s a very popular gas station in the south. Even the food is great. Heck the bathrooms are super clean!! With family in tow, on a long roadtrip if we need gas or if someone needs a restroom break we’ll say let’s make it to bucees. It’s always super packed but you get in and out pretty quick.

Google bucees

It is pretty much the norm. Gas stations don't make money on gas, most of their profits come from the convenience store.

That is not completely true - its just margins on the food and other products at the stores are so much higher than the gas business, which has huge overhead and then you need to price competitively so ppl don’t go to the next one over 5 cent difference.

Curious to see how Shell will operate EV stations and if it can be profitable. They are probably getting huge funding from the government on this project…..

Oil companies are the most subsidized businesses in history.

Considering you need oil for every single item that you use including the shirt on your back - there is a reason for that. The world would be a different place without it. It’s also not going anywhere even if EVs were 100% of marketshare.

BTW I’m not against govt subsidy to improve EV networks.

BTW I represent 3 owners of gas stations. It is completely true. The operator makes very little money on fuel.

Gas stations that I am familiar with pump gas and some fix cars. Most just pump gas. Their business depends on vehicle volume in and out. You are typically gonna charge for about 15 minutes; perhaps longer. That could be 3 or more gas vehicle fill ups.

Shopping centers, just off freeways, make far more sense. In Silicon Valley the other place that makes sense is at work. Here I am charging at Petaluma, CA just off fwy 101, in the wino country. This is a pull thru arrangement, which is rare. I've only seen back in stalls besides this.

I haven't seen a service shop connected to a gas station in years. It used to be very common.

almost none here with car service... gas stations = large convenience stores here

small gas stations here are closing... turning into coffee shops, nail salons, etc.

Yes, that's true here in Central Ohio as well. It's interesting that different parts of the U.S. are otherwise.
