about the r2 and r3, i think they're going to face formidable competition from the upcoming kia ev3 and ev4, which also look awesome and will likely hit the market sooner.

Hands on from Alex Dykes. Haven't had time to watch it just yet, but figured I'd share

Looks great, except I can't understand why the hood is completely horizontal I know they want a certain look but that's not ideal. If Rivian can get to full production in 2026 they will sell every one they make.

2026 is 2 years away... a lot can happen by then.

Sure but I would hope the unibody is already locked in.

Part styling and part off-roading. Flat hoods help with visibility because it's easier to tell where the hood stops and the terrain begins. That's why you see it on most of the "off-road" capable SUVs - Wrangler, Defender, Bronco, etc.

Doesn't help with aero, but that's the tradeoff they're making

my wider point is competition isn't sitting still. plus unless they begin selling more existing vehicles or get more investment, they're going to have a hard time rolling out new models.

Lucid is dependent on PIF. Rivian has cash reserves that may or may not last until the line in Normal is up. It'll be close, but pausing Georgia to get the initial R2s on the road was the right call and saves them 2.5B in cash burn. They still can't afford many surprises in the line build, but they seem to have learned a lot from the R1 ramp. R1 line is going down for the month of April for line improvements that will improve build times by 30%
