As for maintenance and cost of ownership, it varies based on the type of ICE vehicle you purchase. Japanese cars definitely have the advantage compared to the German counterparts. The fact remains that you still have to do maintenance either based on miles or years on any ICE vehicle. You can definitely keep your maintenance cost to the minimum if you do them yourself. For example, my Macan requires spark plugs and engine air filters change every 3yrs or 30k miles and PDK fluid change at every 4yrs or 40k miles, that's in addition to oil change, brake fluid, brake pads and rotors. On the other hand, e-tron doesn't have any of those maintenance costs. Of course things such as electronics and suspension (any other items for that matter) can break. Those are not maintenance items. That'll be the cost of ownership.

I won't disagree with you that the batteries can be the X factor. Even though battery technology isn't anywhere close to being perfect, it's also not as bad as you would think. If you like to drive your cars to 200k miles or more, then EV isn't for you.
Disagree with the German counterpart comment, respectfully. I have an Audi RS variety and the maintenance is virtually identical to my Lexus. Decades of human ingenuity have gone into these designs, versus more novel EV/Tesla approach. The cars just work. Frankely, imho, Tesla could implode at any minute with a black swan-type event like what happened with Boeing 737 Max. It's growth is very inorganic and I believe lacks a sound foundation.

Both Lucid and Mercedes achieved this range and more. At a cost of course, but they achieved it. You can look this up. BTW, costs always come down while tech is always improving

I think non established/unproven technology?

Although I think most things in an EV are pretty well established technologies. Electric motors and lithium batteries aren't necessarily new tech. I think the bigger issue is that most mechanics are unfamiliar with servicing/replacing parts on them, though that will become less of an issue as more EVs in the future will require support.

If you live in an alternate universe maybe. I'm sitting at a Tesla charging area in SoCal in Eastvale, CA that is known for giant pickup trucks, Chargers and Mustangs, and in the last 10 minutes I've seen more than 50 Tesla's come through here. If Tesla is going to implode as a company, I guess that means the end of the world...as only an extinction level event is going to stop the growth of Tesla

It's just another version of, "Wait till the big boys get in." Still waiting...
Every car company in the world is chasing Tesla and their margins.

I don't want to presume what he meant, but it probably had nothing to do with "The big boys" coming out with better EV's, but everyone coming back to their senses and going back to the ICE age. Please forgive the pun

Ya'll, this is what I was saying. Lol
Ev threads getting dragged off topic down a rabbit trail by people throwing a stick and saying fetch... Haha 😂

My edit...

Ev threads might get a little criticism now and then and that's ok, it's all good so don't let it get you down, smiles. The world is changing.

I might make a new thread on this.
