Curious why you're taking the Y and not do a 1st road trip with the 3?
Thank you very much 👍. There are four of us going plus our cockatiel, the Y is roomier, has more space for our luggage. If it was just me and my wife, I would take the Model 3
Tomorrow another trip to SoCal. We may also head to Vegas later in the week which is about 3 hours away from my brother's house. This won't be for pleasure. My uncle's wife passed away today, and we would be going there to give him condolences. He's one of two of my father's remaining cousins, the last of his generation....
sorry for your loss. likewise, lost a family member last night, he was 92, so a very good 'innings'.
unfortunately, too far to drive for the funeral, so it will be a flight.
Today's trip to SoCal was pretty interesting. We got out early enough, but since this is a holiday week, traffic was totally a mess. About 100 miles out from LA we were re-routed eastward through the California High dessert through a city called Palmdale. We drove through some very beautiful, scenic areas, but unfortunately (or fortunately for some) it took us almost 100 miles out of the way. My daughter and wife were freaking out at some points because of how isolated the area was, but I told them "don't worry, Elon would never let us down". That didn't comfort them much, but I got a good smile out of it at their expense .
We also passed through some pretty shady dessert towns. At one point in the drive my wife pointed out a trailer in the distant dessert, and I told her that's where Walter White used to work. She's never seen Breaking Bad, so she had no idea what I was talking about 🤣. We ended up taking some more small back road highways, drove through San Bernardino (more Walter White country) and hit the 15 freeway (this freeway goes to Las Vegas) South of my brothers house. All in all, over 400 miles and about 9 hours, and three charging stops of 12 minutes, 18 minutes, and the last one 10 minutes. I noticed charging went much faster, not sure if it was from an update or Tesla improving their chargers. All chargers we hit were 250 kW fast chargers.
I discovered Terminator Chronicles around 2011, I had completely cut the cord and built my own streaming box from a Windows machine using apps like Plex and SlingTV, plus pirate links. Later moved to Roku, various Android TV boxes, and now for the last few years I've been using an Nvidia Shield. Nvidia Shield and Kodi are your best friends... once you get the right repos and everything working
On the Y I don't have FSD, so I used Autopilot with auto steer a lot of the trip, but I learned a couple of things. On a smaller two lane highway, it will max out the speed at 60. If there are is a very gusty wind, auto steer will bounce the car between the lane trying to keep it steady. So basically, I had to turn off the auto steer feature. Not sure how FSD would be affected under the same conditions

No, I didn't know they were offering another free trial. I do have a software update waiting, but I need to connect it to my brothers WiFi to download it. The notes don't mention another FSD trial. I do have 3 free months of FSD on the Model 3
