Default Steering Wheel - Capacitive or Torque Sensor?

Does anybody know if the ADAS lane tracing on the 8ES still uses a torque sensor (must wiggle wheel) or is finally capacitive (hands on wheel enough)?

On the Crown Signia, it depends on if you have the driver monitoring camera: torque sensor if you don't, capacitive if you do.

Dream scenario would be if on the 8ES it has capacitive across the board without having to have driver monitor. Like a 2021-23 MB E-class for example. Just rest your hand on the wheel and don't worry about getting beeped at.

i’m not sure. When I test drove the 500 I don’t remember that function being on. I do know that if you look away from the road, you do get beeped at by the drive monitor. And that was just my eyes looking at the screen to the right. Wasn’t it super loud beep but it didn’t definitely beep and show a message across the screen that my eyes weren’t paying attention lol

Quick read of TIS (Toyota Information System) does show the Steering Wheel Grip feature on the Crown Signa but does not show that it is integral to the Driver Recognition System. TIS does not yet have the 2026 8th Gen ES published yet, but I'll check back for it.
