Default Cleaning/protecting leather steering wheel.

All,

What are you using to protect and clean your heated, leather steering wheel?

Mine is soft and does bot feel like it will last over time.

1z einszett cockpit premium and nothing else.

It's designed by BMW's partner/supplier and sells with the BMW logo at dealerships for over 15 years. It has UV protectant as well and my current bottle is going on 5 years. It's just about run out. It keeps the steering wheel that lush dry feeling raw showroom feel. no oils or no sheen or no shine. 100% dry protection! it will strip all human oils out of the leather.

i'm VERY hesitant and very reluctant on "products" as I hate things that are sprayed (generally) but this is one product I trust and verify works great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use the Chemical Guys leather cleaner. It's very light, not harsh at all. Once it's dry, I apply the 3D LVP conditioner. It's designed for, you guessed it: Leather, Vinyl, and Plastic. I apply it with a microfiber applicator pad and let it sit for about 20 min.

Then I use a microfiber towel to wipe off the excess.

I've used this combination on my Viper, AMG, and now my ES Lexus. People are always in awe of how great my interior looks. Of course, I am VERY **** about my cars, so that helps lol

^sounds like that would cause an oily type shiny sheen. that's what conditioner does.

the stuff i recommend is 100% dry. Any time I do interiors, it has to have a factory fresh showroom look. that is 100% raw dry materials. raw dry leather.

Nope, not oily at all. That's EXACTLY why i wipe off the excess with a dry towel after I let it sit. Most products that protect leather have SOME form of an oil in it. (Like your skin/lotion)

What you Don't want is an excess of oil.

So if you were to take a factory Lexus steering wheel out of the box freshly manufacturered, then you rub your conditioner all over an identical one side by side, it would have the exact same dry finish?

I'm not saying yours is super oily, but it is at all "shiny" or "sheen" like? Personally i wouldn't put anything creamy/conditioney on a place where i put my hands, or something that requires wiping "excess" off of. in my experience those conditioners aren't ideal on a steering wheel.

My steering wheels (on all of my cars) look exactly like they did the day they were purchased. (actually, probably better) I detest a slick or oily look.

I've been part time detailing for about 15 years and I probably have OCD when it comes to my personal cars. I'm not your typical car owner, I own a full arsenal of products, so I have a great idea on what to use and not to use ..and how.

I'm pretty ocd when it comes to cleaning the cars (weekly wash, vacuum etc) as well but I'll never put anything on the steering wheel. And yes mine after three plus years looks brand new still.

lol i see no lies lol that alcohol is a serial killer for leather! Dries it out terribly...

Same with food oils... thats exactly why it's important to use a good leather cleaner and re-condition it from time to time. It's literally like your skin.

Just passing through, I have a Venza with a leather steering wheel.

I use Chemical Guys Leather Cleaner followed by Meguiars Gold Class Leather Conditioner.

The conditioners provide UV protection.
