Default Has Anyone Seen the HUD Side Light?

Driving my 24 ES350 UL in the daytime lately, I've occasionly seen what looks like a reflection on the windshield. Then I noticed it's not the sun as it stays when I turn direction. I snapped the attached pic of what looks like a side light in the HUD recessed area on the dash. It's not on all of the time and it did even stay on once when I parked the car and the car was turned off. It comes and goes even if I turn on / off the HUD button. I've not seen it at night strangely, just during the day and it's hard to get a good pic while driving!

Going in for my 10K service in about 10 days so I will share the pic and describe it to them. If anyone has seen this, had it fixed, or know what it is please chime in so I can give the dealer more to go on.

There have been several threads on this forum discussing this.

The last one was HUD system abnormalities, where in my post #5 I include a summary and link to a previous HUD Issue-2022 ES UL thread discussion on the phenomenon.

Do you see this light if you cover the front windshield?

Have not tried that as I'm usually driving. Based on the thread others pointed me to, it seems like a reflection but I don't know. I may try adding a small strip of black felt in the "HUD well" to see if it goes away

I have a 2024 ES 350 UL within a few days of ownership. Showed pics to dealership and responce was as you would expect.Never heard of this. This problem has been around for years and have seen other complaints.Took 3 months to get all the details surrounding this issue and make an appointment for a test drive with their techs. This is a summer problem, has to be a bright sunny day,no overcast, between hrs of 11 am and 4pm.So schedule the best day possible, they have to see the problem.I lucked out leaving the parking lot, there it was.I Stopped car and let Tech come around to driver side. Was told its called a "Light Refraction" and to fix it the entire dash has to be removed. The " projector " would have to replaced.I opted to wait until almost out of warranty and hope for a mirricle. I have the paperwork to get it done at my descrition.I did experiment with a piece of felt taped in place on right edge 1 in wide with success. You might be able to drive around the dealership slow and get lucky like me.The tech had indicated doing one of these jobs. When I do this will request a projector made in Japan. Haven't heard of this problem in other countries. Good luck,Dale

I saw this on my 2019 UL 350 shortly after delivery of the car in December 2018. All of the descriptions above are correct. Just a sliver shows on the glass. I turned my HUD off on the way home from picking up my car and it hasn't been turned on in 7 years. However the sliver still shows on a bright sunny day. I certainly wouldn't have my dash removed to fix it. A minor annoyance IMO...

Agreed, IO think I'm just going to let it ride, maybe I'll try to black felt strip tip. Thanks to all who have chimed in!

I am sure this will be rectified in the new ES just like bringing back the split screen which was a huge mistake they won't admit.

I've read complaints about the "split screen" on the forum in the past but not sure what it actually is. I don't even know if I have one on my 2019... I know I can have two screens on at the same time such as GPS and radio.

That is the split screen and the new interface does not have that.

Yes you have the split screen just like I do in the 19 ES - our newer RX does NOT have that feature unless you're in Android Auto. No big deal to me regardless.
